Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I guess I didn't really get my Angel Food and Catholic Stories books. Adoremus just refunded my money. Apparently their system had allowed a back order at the time I ordered, but there aren't any more books.

ETA: Also have you seen the ridiculous prices posted on amazon for the 1 or 2 used volumes????

Aw. It is sad.

Perhaps some other publisher will see the demand for some of these and put some of these back in print again? I still think it is possible that another publisher could buy their imprint, too. Here's hopin'!

It is ridiculous, actually. There are particular Catholic booksellers that charge crazy prices on OOP books. In fact on of them I refuse to buy from anymore even if that is the only copy available. I understand needing to "pay the bills", but these books need to read and money can be made charging a reasonable amount with profit.

I was able to purchase a copy of "The Man Who Fought the Devil" from Keller Books. They haven't raised their prices if you go directly to their website. I am not sure what else they have left though.

Blessings,
Stephanie

Yes, I was wondering if St. Benedict Press/TAN might do that.

I am super sorry to hear you didn't get your books, Angela!

Almost all of Neumann Press reprints are books in the public domain. So someone could even make an e-book of these without copyright problems (unless they are copies of Neumann's printing style).

Anyway, there are copies out there of the original versions. I thought I would paste here our discussions of the Angel Food series by Rev. Gerald Brennan:

JennGM wrote:
The Angel Food series by Father Gerald Brennan was originally printed in the 40s by Bruce Publishing Company. There were six books in the series:

I. Angel Food
II. For Heaven's Sake
III. Going His Way
IV Just for Juniors
V. Angel Food for Jack and Jill
VI. Angel Food Time

Neumann Press has reissued 4 of the volumes, but in a different order:

I. Angel Food for Jack and Jill
II. Angel Food Time
III. Angel Food
IV. For Heaven's Sake

In addition to the series, there was a collection published in 1964 of 50 of the Angel Food stories in one volume, entitled Father Brennan's Favorite Stories. This is the only book I had growing up, but I read it cover to cover so many times.

With Jen's permission, I have added some information to her original spreadsheet. I know I'm not the only working with both in and out of print books.

I kept Jen's originl on the first worksheet and added two more worksheets (tabs on the bottom). The "Original editions" adds the two extra volumes corresponding Baltimore Catechism lessons, but it also is sorted and organized by the original volume number order. I also added an asterisk to any story that appears in Father Brennan's Favorite Stories.

The third worksheet is a list of all the catechism lessons and the stories from Father Brennan's Favorite Stories.

I started making individual worksheets for each volume, but that was mainly for my own information, and I thought it might be overkill to publicly share that.

Let me know if there problems or questions.

I got my used volumes off Amazon right away and was able to get them at roughly the same price as Neumann sold them. I haven't seen them yet- I had to have them shipped to my parents' house in the US. I am hoping they are in good condition like the seller said.

ETA: I just spoke with my mom and saw them on Skype... they are lovely and all new or like new. So I did manage to get all four for roughly the same price Neumann was selling them for. I hope other people have the same luck.

My wishlist includes the Saints and Friendly Beasts series, but I'm really worried now there will be no chance. So hoping another company will take this on.

I got my books from Adoremus, but I didn't get Angel Food Volume 4 or the Stories for First Communicants.    Otherwise, I got them all. Volume 4 is going to more than $6,000 on amazon. Yeah, right! Hopefully I will be able to get it in their sale this fall. Does anyone have a link to the books in the public domain>

Same with me Kristenannie. Did not receive Vol. 4 nor the Communicant ones. :(

I am hoping to find some at our local conference this Saturday.

Any further news on the sale? How are you all going sourcing these books?

Tan Books has acquired Neumann Press. I am so happy that these books will still be available.

SUCH great news! And as Jessica noted in this post, in the press release they say "TAN is lowering Neumann Press retail prices across the board and extending TAN resellers their normal terms."

So for many of us this may mean buying some of these titles we had always wanted but couldn't afford. I only have a few I purchased new plus a set of American Cardinals P-4 bought used, so I'm looking forward to seeing the newer prices from a larger press. I'm so glad the family was willing to sell and keep the press alive.
