Stacy, did he play while at the 2 year school?

I'm considering going with Kolbe for the rest of high school for ds, who is now in the 10th grade, and then move into Kolbe for high school for all of the rest.
One of the reasons is I'm hoping using an accredited transcript would be helpful through all this stuff...
think so?????

No, he didn't, and they also did not have a lax team, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. But I do know of a former football friend of ds's who went to JCo for two years, played there, graduated, and then was eligible to play from the get-go at his 4-year d1 school.

I think this has been our biggest headache with NCAA and trying to dot our i's and cross our t's- the changes that always seem to pop up, just when we think we are all set!
Prayers for you in all that paperwork!

It just bothers me that a homeschooling family isn't free to educate as they see fit. It's one thing to show academic achievement (SAT, Grades, Transcript) but to spend years and money to prove...what? Oversight? Makes my blood boil.

NO!!!!!! I want my athletes to go where they are wanted and where our family choices will at a minimum be accepted.
More and more it looks like Aiden may go the community college route here in AZ. They offer great academics and great baseball. Plus he'll be able to mature and make a more informed choice about further academics and ball. And if that means I miss the privilege of bowing to the NCAA, all the better .
Just to be clear, I do see the need for accountability and oversight for athletes, but not at the undermining of family or to grow the power of an organization. Let my kid prove his mettle in the classroom and on the field.
Love,

Angie,
After looking at how many big league players got their start in jr. college, it's definitely an appealing option. And what about Bryce Harper's decision to take the GED at 16 so he would be eligible for the draft? I told ds that and he said, "Wait, so I could do that and be done?" Oops!
Oh, and I came across a story about a Virginia homeschool baseball player Josh Henderson, who was drafted by the Dodgers after finishing his homeschooling. He was also accepted at Liberty University. Pretty cool!
Josh Henderson is a Home-school MLB Draft Prospect

Yep!
My oldest was again with Baseball Factory for a tryout and films. Again, husband talked to the coaches there. Again, regardless of homeschooling, they keep encouraging players to find their fit! They keep saying that D1 and D2 aren't "better" for everyone. The one guy attended D1 but didn't get the play time he would have liked.
Thanks for the link Val. I'll send it on to my men .
Love,

Well, we're nearly 3 months into this journey with our son, and we've settled into a fairly relaxed routine. It really is like he's starting to own the whole process and I'm just there to make sure he has the correct paperwork when the time comes. I'm definitely no longer getting myself frazzled over the NCAA stuff.
We had a great discussion the other day in the car while heading to the store to buy some clothes. He said that if regular school days were only 3 hours a day, say, from 12-3, kids would be so much happier and get a lot more done than they do when they're there for 7 hours/day. He realizes how efficient things are with homeschooling.
Granted, we are taking it a *little* easy in the English department (just vocab), since he was taking an honors class and had done a TON of reading and writing. But with the other subjects, we're just doing the same sort of assignments. It takes much less time because he doesn't need to sit through a dull lecture and wait to get home to do homework. Naturally, this frees up his time to focus on conditioning and honing his baseball skills.
Oh, and he attended a camp at University of Akron (OH). DH said the coaches seemed to like him a lot. When asked where he went to school, he proudly told them that he is homeschooled. He got a decent evaluation back from them, saying he is a likely D1 prospect, so we'll be keeping an eye out for them this summer.
Exciting times!

Val, my eyes filled up with HAPPY TEARS reading your PRIVILEGED news! Tell your son I'm rooting for him and am SO PROUD of all his efforts - and those of your family, of course .
You know that scene in Monster's Inc. when the little girl says "Boo" back to her monster? Well that's what you all are doing to the NCAA - BOO! The game of baseball is so much bigger than the NCAA. Baseball wants the best talent & people in the game. God is even bigger than baseball
Thanks so much for keeping us posted! I'm a cyber-auntie cheering your son on to victory. And I'm LOUD .
Love,

As some of you are further down the road in high school than we are,
does enrolling with a school like Seton or Kolbe help with satisfying NCAA requirements?
I've noticed that several of their courses are approved to meet the core requirements so I don't know if this is the more seamless way to go.
I've read through the NCAA homeschool information on their website and feel more confused as to whether they will think we are homeschooling or using a non-traditional school.
Thanks,
Melissa
