Those quizzes are excellent. How on earth do you create those? Fantastic!
My engineer husband tried to explain to me - but it came out all algorithms... UGH. I don't want to know about algorithms!

Looks like a winner, Nissa. Hope you have lots of participants. What is the release date of the first edition?

Oh, thanks, Maureen! The first Simple Gifts carnival will appear on Friday the 23rd of March on my weblog. I also have a cooking carnival called Tuesday Tea at Simple Gifts, which will appear on the 20th of March. I've kept the submission deadlines the same for both - Sundays at 2pm Eastern. I hope you'll be posting!

I am new to all this and just considering starting a blog, so forgive me for my ignorance. What is a "blog carnival"? Thanks!

Maria, part of the answer is in this thread.
But to further clarify, say I was hosting a carnival of cupcakes. If you wanted to join in, you would send me a link to a post in which you wrote about cupcakes. You might have posted it in the past, or you might write one just for the carnival. There is usually a deadline by which you need to get your entry in to the host(ess).
On the day of the carnival I would write one long post linking to all of the entries - writing a quick intro. to each one. So it's kind of like one-stop shopping for blog readers.
Does that help?

Here's what I wrote to another gal who asked the same question on one of my lists...
******************************
A blog carnival is a wonderful thing! Basically it is a large weblog post/article that refers to other bloggers' articles on the same theme. Bloggers submit the names of their weblogs and articles and links to both, as well as (sometimes) a brief description of either their weblog, post or both.
For readers, it provides a wealth of inspiration on a particular topic in one place. For bloggers it is a wonderful way to introduce and/or publicize your weblog.
*******************************
HTH...

Well, I've been having a love/hate relationship with blogging and, as some of you may know, have deleted several blogs already.
However, I like this "learning notes" blogging idea, especially as a method of keeping myself accountable. So, I've created one. It's not very exciting to read but, I thought if I announced it here, then the possibility of people actually reading it might hold me to keeping it up and keeping myself accountable.
So, for anyone interested, my new blog is Our Lady of Providence A & M. Please stop by and keep me on task.

Oh, Taffy! It's divine! It's funny, my homeschooling blog is the one I have the most trouble with. I can't seem to find a safe place to wade into the rushing waters. Seems I can't blog fast enough to keep up with their projects. By the time I've organized a post and things, they're way past it an onto something else and the post gets left in draft...

Thanks, Dawn and Nissa! I can't take any credit for the photo, it's a ready-made theme and I've done very little to it. But I DO love the picture - I think I'll be keeping it!

Donna, your blog is beautiful!! I *love* your nature table! We adore The Story of the Root Children, and I've always wanted to try making some of those soft dolls. Yours are lovely.
I use Typepad, so I can't help you with the sidebars - I'm sure someone else will be able to though.
And as far as the blogroll goes - I think generally folks are pleased to be linked to, so I would say, link away!
Have fun!

Donna, I do not have a Google account yet so lost my comment on your blog, but your felt figures are gorgeous! I second (third!) the others who are asking for more info. And the beach fishing trip - even I had never considered eating skate! You should send that post with accompanying recipe off for the meatless Friday Carnival, fascinating.
I also do not have a Typepad account, went with an obscure sailing bloghost instead, but my sidebars are a bear to play with. Copy and Paste are my two best friends! Each blog has to be entered individually and a number assigned to it for the order in which it will appear. Then I add code to have it appear in a second window when someone clicks on it. That's just for the blogroll, very time intensive and there are so many wonderful 4Real Blogs now but I just haven't found the time to add them all...

Donna,
Your blog is beautiful. How did you come up with that name? It's very poetic.
