I love flowers but they get REALLY expensive. Seriously considering some fake ones but don't know if they'll have the same effect. |

Don't discount the foliage and shrubs around your new home, Mimi! Sometimes placing a few snippings of something in a vase can be very lovely! It doesn't have to be flowers! And, you can spend the next few months thinking of a few pretty flowers you'd like to plant in the spring so you can have fresh flower cuttings!

Yes! I learned this from a lady I used to pray the rosary with. She would go out into her backyard before we arrived and take a few cuttings from whatever was growing in her yard and place it in a little vase or teacup or pretty glass and place it on the table. It was often the most eclectic little bunch of plants and it got me to thinking what beauty really was...not just the kind that you could purchase from the florist...I learned a lot from her.
She taught me to see beauty in a single little colored glass from a garage sale...things I would just pass by before...and it didn't even matter if it had a little chip taken out of it, it was all in how you would dress it up! If you make it special, it is special!
Send the kids outside...they will show you what is pretty!

My dd is great at pretty little things. she does exactly this...goes outside and places flowers of all kinds in vases for each room..including the bathroom, and placing fresh flowers near Our Lady. She does such a great job, and sees the beauty in plants I would glance past.
I like Candles, they add atmosphere to a room.
and pretty table clothes.
As we only have the dds at home.. our main bathroom is decorated in feminine colours.

Even one small (and even bare) branch in the right vase or jar brings a nice ambiance to the room.
Or a long skinny leaf.
Or any of those little "weeds" the 3 year olds are always bringing in

You can also dry foliage so that you have something pretty inside when it's cold outside. I have dried hydrangea sitting around now.
Though I do have evergreens and a holly bush outside here so that's nice winter foliage.

Thursday Bump!
This topic may be my ALL TIME FAVE! Definitely TOP TEN! Now my brain is rigged to consider...Is it pretty? Can I make it pretty? Which is the prettiest?
What are you all doing that's pretty these days?
Love,

I love this thread too
Well we still cut flowers.
Dd is too busy to remember to cut and bring them inside now. Busy ballet teen now.
Candles and burning essential oils are a favourite
We have several pots outside under cover. We fill them with pretty plants. As its winter. We have primulas, pansys, snapdragons and violas.
How is everyone else's pretty things going?

I think I am going to send my olders outside to see what they can find. Or maybe we will go on a nature walk. There's a house nearby with a GORGEOUS yard of wildflowers and is pruning near the sidewalk. Perhaps we can get some pruned gems from there.
I was also thinking about using some essential oils for a room spray. Our house tends to smell stale and on the days when we can't open the windows, I would like to have something other than the stale smell. I already have orange EO, maybe that will be my Saturday project. :D

I love this thread- when I need a little boost or inspiration to keep beauty in my home, I come back here.
In honor of 4Real's 10th Anniversary I am bumping this one up!
