I don't know where to post this. But, I just got to giggling today. I got my hair cut at the hair dressers today(what a luxury)! This is a place where ladies talk and since we are in a small town, a lot of people know us. The subject of homeschooling came up. And one lady chimed in and looked at me and said, "I could never homeschool! I think it is just for people that don't have that much going on." I laughed out loud. And I was trying to say my Rosary on the drive back home but I kept on giggling.
How come there are so many people at this forum who don't have that much going on?JavaScript:AddSmileyIcon('')

My SIL once told me, "Oh, it doesn't matter if you don't get much sleep at night, it's not like you have to go work in the morning or be pulled together for anything."
Yep, just sittin' around eating bonbons and watching TV.

I was at a bookclub with professional women who said the reason that there are so many salons in the suburbs is because of "housewives" <knowing head nods and smiles>.
Yep, all the housewives I know spend lots of time getting their nails and hair done.

What a riot, maybe you should invite her over to see all that you don't have going on,

Sometimes I take my bon-bons to the salon to watch TV while I get my nails done.

Too funny. You know, sheer boredom is really my whole motivation for homeschooling. If I could only find something worthwhile to do, I'd pack them kids off to school in a second!

I have always said that I homeschool because I just don't have enough to do. Hsing keeps me off the streets.
marianne, how did you find time for a haircut? I have not had a "real" one for about 10 years. My girls love to cut my hair.

Isn't that why we have all these children--to feed us our bonbons and do our nails?

MacBeth,
I have a good sort of husband that has Tuesdays off and kept school going while I went to get a hair cut! Then I came home and lounged around. No really, I came home and took my kids to music class along with my friends two year old. I kind of liked having 6 kids instead of 5 this afternoon!
I think it is because I don't have that much going on!

You know, I'd put down my bonbons to write a really creative response to all this...but I'd spoil my wet nail polish.

Now hang on. Are you all talking TOE NAILS? Or fingernails? I'll just have you know, I *did* (no, really) have a pedicure in summer because my feet are really REALLY dry ... cracked even in some places. My brother's wedding was within a week and I had to wear sandals for it. The ugly feet are back. I even bought some stuff so that I could soften them up at home. But I don't have time to implement it!
OK, I have to go take care of all that stuff that I don't have to do.

Seriously, isn't "not having that much going on" an expression like "not having that much on the ball?" I think she might have maybe meant that homeschool wasn't for sophisticated, intelligent people.

I do admit to feeling sometimes *out of it* technologically speaking. I'm way lost on discussions like this. And I feel sometimes *simple* compared to those people who work out in the world, talk about news (we don't have TV, don't get the newspaper, aren't often online, and it's rare I hear anything on the radio since we mostly listen to DVDs), what's the latest on TV, and use words and phrases that have only been introduced through the media.
To tell the truth, it's been so long since I've studied anything besides my faith for myself (in other words, *not* with my children), maybe I *am* unsophisticated and simple. What's wrong with that? Many, many saints were the same and some of the more simple even became doctors of the church.

Of course! But I think we have to wait until we're 80 for that to happen.
