Why don't we start a list of fun things to do in the snow (not that I'm in terrible need right now ).
Here's one of my favorites: Snow Saints!
I've also seen lots of different instructions for Snow Candles, which is perfect for us since we already have the paraffin and plenty of broken crayons.
Got any ideas?

This month there is a Snow Lapbook freebie at Hands of a Child.
My Air Conditioner is still running, maybe we will make snow cones!

I have a whole list of Snow Books to bring to the library! Many of the books have activities, too!
Now, if only we had some snow. It's going to be 54 here tomorrow .

Dover has a cool snowflake book (or two) with pictures of snowcrystals close-up. It is amazing.
The one I've looked at was probably one of these two books:
http://store.doverpublications.com/0486412539.html
http://store.doverpublications.com/0486202879.html
If you look under snow or snowflakes at Dover's site, prepare to go down a rabbit trail... so many ideas!!
Also, in trying to track down the book to post the link, I came across this site:
http://www.its.caltech.edu/~atomic/snowcrystals/
These weren't my childhood snowflakes! How our amazing God has worked and continues to work! Glory to God!

Wow...this is cool stuff! Kristen, that unit is wonderful .
MacBeth, I put many of those books on hold tonight. Actually it's going to be at least 50 here also; Thursday too. Kelly, I remember that site from way back before I lost all my favorites...thanks!

It has been a warm early winter. Still, I have hopes for trying Mary's incredible Snow Saints sometime before the winter is out!

An awesome project I found in a Better Homes and Gardens Magazine was to select your favorite snowflakes from Snow Crystals and print on clear self-adhesive paper. Cut out and remove backing for gorgeous stickers large and small. (I've not tried it but they looked fabulous!) Dr. Kenneth Libbrecht was chosen for one of the Christmas stamps this year.

I love the snow lapbook. Anything that doesn't require real snow is helpful here. We normally have the fair amount of cut paper snowflakes hanging in the windows! Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Its snowing here today! We read Katy and the Big Snow, and the kids are currently building a block city and plowing the streets with a toy bulldozer as I write. We are Rowing Katy this week, and I've supplemented additional activities from here and here.
Next week we are doing a unit centered around Snowflake Bentley. There is a WONDERFUL unit posted here on a thread by the same name. I'm using a lot of activities of this unit, and would post a link to the thread if I knew how...perhaps a moderator could help me?
Gwen, I'm going to try the Snow Candles! And Kristen, thanks for the wonderful Lapbook link! I'd never seen The Hands of a Child site, and will certainly be going back there.

Not a moderator, but here's the link - Snowflake Bentley
I'm hoping to get us outside today for some snow tracking of local animals along our areas nature trail.

It was sooooo warm here today but we have so much snow (piles in our yard that are high enough for the 2 yo dd and 4 yo granddaughter to sled off) that we were able to finish Mary,Joseph, baby Jesus complete with fallen pine branches for "hay" in the manger and 2 of the Wise Men.
Our dog thought they were dangerous looking and I was afraid we'd lose our veils and the Babe's swaddling clothes but apparantly he lost interest and they are all still dressed. Not dd though. Her diaper fell out through the bottom of her pants but she was having too much fun to remedy that!

It is so warm here, and dc are so sad that we have no snow, that we made ice cream snowmen! Filled up waffle cones in the shape of snowmen, bought various candies for all the trimmings and there you have the extent of our pitiful snowy Christmas

How cute, Molly! It looks bleak here for snow or cold weather here, too. Long range forecast (2 weeks) doesn't show a change in patterns. Warm days. Dh is upset because his bday (6th) it will be 70 degrees. Yuck.
I'm upset because I got some nice sweaters for Christmas and boots and can't wear them.

LOL! I have never succeeded in downloading a photo to 4 Real without Tim and Janette's help. Must be some sort of problem with my browser. Still, I will pm you with my email address so you can send them to me. I'm sure I will be able to get them up for you somehow!

Aren't Molly's ice cream snow men adorable?! (Not to mention that beautiful, happy little girl!) We are going to try this for sure, maybe even today, as it feels like summer in January!
A big thank you to Tim for uploading Molly's photo!

How about Snow Ice Cream? I suggest doing this with fresh snow only!
We're doing a Chronicles of Narnia Unit which was inspired by the snow. I found some great ideas here.
For Nature Study we are going to do some animal tracking at a State park. The snow in Colorado is so crisp right now that tracks can easily be seen. Project Seasons has a great unit on animals in the winter & animal tracking that are great for co-ops. (I've used some of their other units in the book with co-ops and have had tons of fun!) I found it at our library but have contemplated buying it just to have on hand.
We also just made polymer clay snowfakes that we plan on hanging from a mirror until Spring comes to brighten our home. (I plan on posting these on my Blog but they're not quite finished yet...)
And of course sledding is great!
In Colorado loving the snow,
