Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Jane Austen's House

Here is a link to the wonderful blog post from Susan Branch that Tracy mentioned. What a treat to tour her house- I would love to go there!

Even though Jane didn't have children, she did help manage the house. Her family kept a large garden, and her sister kept bees. True, she didn't have the interruptions of modern life- answering machine, UPS man coming to the door , Target luring her away to look at office supplies- but writing was something that was a big part, but not the whole, of her life and duties.

From looking at her house, it doesn't really look like there even would have been room to be cluttery and over-stuffed, but maybe I'm wrong. A house on display is different from a house being lived in.

As I look around my own house, I realize that I don't even have one free flat surface. Everything has something on it, even just a picture .

Thanks for this link, my oldest dd and I really enjoyed looking tonight at Jane Austen's charming home!

No Post-its???!!!

{{Juliana has a case of the vapors}}

Honestly, though, thank you all so much! It was wonderful to see those desks. I think they would be horrified by mine.

{{{{I use a standing desk- it's called my kitchen counter, or the top of a bookcase or dresser, or anywhere I can get my stuff up high enough where my children can't grab it and destroy it...}}}

This is definitely me...I would love a desk but it just doesn't seem to work that way...

I love reading through everyones comments. and seeing the Desk used by Jane Austen
