I found this piece of furniture from JCPenny a couple of years ago and I had the perfect spot for it in my kitchen/dining room. I have baskets inside that hold books and some books are just on the shelf. The height is perfect and that I can put stuff on the top and still reach it. I love it. JCP has some great pieces of inexpensive furniture. This holds almost all of the stuff we are currently using for school. Books that are currently being used go on bookshelves in a bedroom or in a plastic container under my bed. Art supplies go in a hall closet that Dh put shelving (there is pictures of this on my blog). I will do a blog post tomorrow of the cabinet in our house. But, here is the link to the furniture that we use. JCP "bathroom" cabinet
ETA: I took pics and put them on my blog of our school area. Not much or "pretty". Link below.

I think that the day we started this discussion, my husband told me about a computer desk they were getting rid of at work
This freed up my little desk from being the computer desk and allowed me to easily make some changes in the office without having to purchase any furnitue So I've been overhauling the office with a desk on each side in opposite corners.
Now comes the sad part. I went by Staples last night, and they did not carry the Martha Stewart line because their store was too small. There are still a couple more around to try, but that was really disappointing to FINALLY make it there and not find what I specifically wanted. My husband will be home a couple of days this week, so maybe I'll have a chance to sneak away to a different Staples. Who knew?

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!!!!! How can this be? Merciful heavens I simply CANNOT STAND to think of you not having a little Martha prettiness tucked somewhere on your new desk!!!!! Are you mapping your next Martha foraging attempt? Have you called every Staples stores within a 20 mile radius to check their stock? Called Staples headquarters to let them know how displeasing it was to go into their store and not find Martha knick-knackery available. How IN THE WORLD can any Staples worth its salt NOT carry the Martha Stewart line, I ask you?!!!!
I'll tell you a secret -- I bought all my Martha Stewart goodness online. Free shipping, dontcha know! Shop from the 'ol comfort of the easy chair. Land on your doorstep 2 days later. I'm just sayin'.

I did make it to a different Staples on Monday (dh was home for a ds2's b'day), and I got some goodies!
They were out of the tabs with notes , but I did alright
I'll tell you, I think my favorite thing I bought was one of her pantry pocket's for stowing printed recipes and taming kitchen paper in the cabinet!
My office organizing has been a bit sidetracked by an ailing dishwasher and a teething baby, but I'm plugging along.

All righty -- two things:
1) Never heard of washi tape, so you are dangerous!!! This is wonderful. Is it like masking but colored? Removable? Tell me more!
2) SO CUTE and BRILLIANT! It's exactly how I plan! My calendars are always full of long arrows of overlapping plans. To make them like this would be so wonderfully helpful -- great visual to distinguish it all.

Because of Jen, I will no longer be able to buy my laminator because I will now be going to staples to buy Martha Stewart office supplies! Ok, so I really needed to work on my office more, therefore it gets done first. It looks like my staples carries it, but they are 16 miles away and I am trying hard to wait until I need to go into town for more than one reason. I tried to order online, but I need to "touch and see" to know what pieces I need. I've got all day to come up with another reason to justify a trip to town!

Oh, Jenn, it IS a dangerous world. Just search for "washi" on Etsy, and you will be amazed!
I think there is a post somewhere in which JenMack waxes philosophical about it and shares her favorite sources, but I can't find it atm. Maybe it is on her blog instead? Her post on stationery?
I only have a small set by Cath Kidston, but I think Martha Stewart has a line in addition to the host of gorgeous Japanese options! Sometimes it is just called "paper tape" or "craft tape" but is is just a lightweight masking tape with a printed design or pretty solid color. It is not completely removable like a sticky note, but it is repositionable with a slight risk of pulling some of the paper with it.

Oh, thanks for enabling me, Donna!
I am thinking that these would decorate a prayer card so beautifully!

Here is an excellent Pin Board of attainable home office ideas. I think it is a nice compilation of inspiration for the type of spaces useful to us.
