For our pioneer dinner--I'm planning to make some things out of The Little House Cookbook, like bean porridge and corn bread. Definately something simple!

This question, or should I say questions, is for all you experienced bloggers
I've finally decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon. I've been hesitant at first, because I didn't know if I would having anything to say ...which if you knew me well, you would know that is a little ironic for me to say! Actually I've been lured to blogging through a new devotional I've been reading called Rise and Shine. So here goes with the endless questions ...
1) Is there a particular free site that you would recommend ?
2) Is there a particular website or book you could recommend that would help me figure out how to change the look of my blog ?
3) How do you add Amazon links to your blog?
4) Will I be infringing upon copyright laws with the idea for me new blog ... I wanted to take everyone along my path through the devotional. I was going to list the scripture verse it has me ponder each day and maybe add a few quotes from the book. Then I will fill in my own feelings and experiences for the day.
I've enjoyed reading many of your blogs and you too have inspired me to enter the world of blogging :) - Tina

Whew! I've been away for awhile, and there is WAAAYYY too much going on here for me to catch up. Ever. I've got a little cospirazione del contemplativi going on at my blog, but I haven't dared jump into the homeschool blogging. Maybe I should - it would keep me on task and accountable in some way!
While I ponder that, and peruse all your amazing blogs for inspiration, perhaps you will consider joining our conspiracy at Exhaling

Hello, Cay. How is it, living with your book contract?
Hello, Angie. May I suggest something straightforward, like "At Twenty," and then something with a Kipling-esque beat like "Cynosure"?
It's good to be back among friends, friends! Been working my brain to cauliflower finishing the teen stations and editing another book. Now I've got to finish my planning for the school year, and I knew where to come for ideas and inspiration!
There is so much energy here, I can't help but be energized! Even though I'm up past my bedtime here!

Prayers gratefully accepted, and reciprocated.
Now if only I knew how to MARKET all these projects. Ah, there's my downfall - don't know nuthin' 'bout sellin' no books

Speaking of To Sing You Must Exhale, my dd used the first communion poem and the lovely picture that accompanies it in her First Communion notebook. Hope that was okay to photocopy. If not, I admit my guilt. But it was too beautiful not to use.
THe contract? Well...it's liveable.
Tina, I do hope someone gives you good advice. I can't offer much (and hopefully Lissa will magically appear ) but here's something to start with:
1) I started with blogspot which is free and very simple to use.
2) I'm still learning...and not that good at it.
3) Amazon links are easy but you need the ISBN # to link it.
4) Oh, copyright laws!!! I've just spent a week trying to educate myself in this subject because of my book and I know we've had a looooong copyright thread here. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't dare insert my foot into my mouth on this one. My editor must surely think I'm a worry-wart when it comes to copyright laws, but (ya know what?) 'tis better safe than sorry.

Well, that's one of the highest compliments I've ever received, Cay. Praise God, you found something good in that little volume. I'll go to sleep now, with that good thought.
Ok, now, back to blogging!

How timely, I'll be interested to read what everyone has to say. I've been considering a blog myself, I just have to discern if this is the right thing for me to do. I don't want to do it unless I have dh's blessing.
My question which is the crux of the issue...How much time does a blog take per day? I'm reluctant to give up this forum but don't want to do something that will be too much more computer time.

Well, I took the plunge. I started a blog.
I design websites but I have never designed or even read a blog until now. I am using WordPress through my hosting company.
It is still pretty bare but I will be trying to add things to it in the *hopefully* near future. Let me know what you think, is there anything not working or something that could use improvement?
Isla de Esperanza (Island of Hope). Thank you for your help.
BTW, how do you do the "feed" things at the bottom of the sidebar?
Blessings,
Krisann

Thank you Michele (and Cay ). It took me quite awhile to find a design I liked. I am too picky! I am still going to look at making one of my own with Catholic images, etc. I just have to find the time.

I just started with it, I have no idea how to use half of them. I can tweak the code for the sizes, colors, fonts, etc. but figuring out the rest of it is a little daunting. I am sure eventually I will get it all sorted out.
Blessings,
Krisann

I signed up for the blog ring and added the code but I have not heard anything. I check the "list" option and in the side bar it says there are 46 active members and 15 waiting for approval.
Does anyone know who has to do the "approval"?
Blessings,
Krisann

Oh that sounds lovely! I always tweak mine somewhat but I am still really just learning css so I'm limited...and then there's the time factor too!

Lissa does the Ring, but she's been a bit busy lately and was asking for volunteers to take it over. So that's why the queue is so long.

Krisann, I moved you into members so you should be working now. (Although your blog was in the queue twice, so check to make sure it really IS working. I moved the one with correct code into members.)
The 15 blogs in the queue is misleading...most are spam blogs I just hadn't bothered to delete from the queue. The others are Real Learning members who haven't added the webring code to their blogs yet. About once a month I go through and re-send the code to people in the queue.

Thanks to the inspiration of so many wonderful "bloggers" here on this forum, I'm taking the plunge. I've been working on my blogs for the last month (Typepad free trial) and praying about all of this to discern if this is for me. Still not absolutely sure but figured it's worth a go!!!
One thing I'm not sure about is how much time I'll have to put into this. Another thing I'm a bit unclear about is blog "etiquette" --- I still need to learn more about that but I figure that for now I can simply do my best to apply my own knowledge about how to treat others kindly. In other words, ladies please don't be offended if I do something that you could be offended by! (Maybe a 30-day grace period is in order?!)
So, with no further ado ... hope you'll stop on over and visit me at This Present Moment.
