Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh my goodness, thanks so much for sharing that story, what an amazing journey! I have special needs kiddos as well, with an obscure syndrome, but they are doing well at the moment. We have had a few very scary times as well.....but God is good...all of the time!

Please cruise around the “Special needs” section....lots of “Sisters” over there that “get it” having medically and developmentally challenging children, while homeschooling some or all of their brood.

God bless you for your witness!! AND...Cincy is a great town!!

You guys are all so nice ! Thank you very much! I sure appreciate the warm welcome ! I also appreciate no one getting mad that my introductory post was so long. I don't usually do that, but to tell a part of it you needed to tell the whole story. I don't go around telling anybody who will listen , but I thought this was a good place to tell it b/c I knew it would be appreciated & accepted as the miracle it truly was.

Hope you're all enjoying the summer! It sure goes by fast !

Hello!

My name is Claire and I'm a new-to-homeschooling mom of three. My kids are 6 (7 in December), 4 and 2.

I decided to homeschool over the summer. My son went to kindergarten in public school last year and although he had a good experience, I had misgivings about the education of all my children that I simply couldn't shake. God very plainly led me to consider homeschooling and the more I researched, read and prayed, the more intrigued and excited I became. So we took the plunge!

I was interested in the Charlotte Mason approach right away - she had me at "living books!" :) I have very much enjoyed reading here and elsewhere about how people implement her methods with their children. It has helped me to formulate a vision of how our little school will be. My friend Chris (Chris V here at 4Real) told me about this great forum and couldn't say enough great things about all of you!

As for me, I'm 34, stay-home with my kiddos, and have been married for 12 years. I was raised Catholic, but wandered away from the church in young adulthood. I came back to the church whole-heartedly in 2009 and my husband went through RCIA and joined the church at the Easter Vigil in 2010. He was baptized with our daughter :).

Thanks and I look forward to being a part of the community!

Hi, all! My name is Michele, and my husband and I are raising our two beautiful amazing daughters in the North Georgia mountains. I would love to have a houseful of children, but due to endometriosis I make do with lots of wonderful godchildren! "Nutmeg" is almost 11, and "Buttercup" is 7. We have been homeschooling since Nutmeg was 5 using the Well-Trained Mind as our guide. I heard about Charlotte Mason all along, mostly in the context of Nature study, and I have enjoyed following many blogs such as Wildflowers and Marbles (hi, Jenn!) and Evlogia. The last two weeks I have been reading everything CM I could get my hands on. When I realized I was highlighting 3/4 of every page of CM volume 6, I thought I might need to join this group! We started artist and composer study 3 weeks ago, and I am going to try the many, paced readings with with attention and narrations. I am enjoying searching the archives of this forum, and am sure I will have many questions. Thank you for having me here!
Here is where I blog - I alternate between homeschool weekly reports and needlework.

Welcome Claire!! What a beautiful journey you describe - both your journey back to the faith and your journey which has recently led you to home education!   I know what you mean about the idea of "living books"!    I'm hooked, too!

And Michele! Welcome! We're practically neighbors since I live in the North Alabama mountains! These boards are a blessing full of ideas and encouragement! I'm so glad you found the amazing archives! I search them for books and topics and find something helpful almost every week!

Get settled with a cup of tea ladies, and please do jump in wherever you feel comfortable!

We took the plunge this fall also and just joined the forums this summer. My son Alexander is loving his homeschool kindergarten. I like it best when people ask him if he is going to kindergarten, and he says "I'm homeschooled." I was happy that he is willing and able to let people know what he is doing.

Hi! My name is Sarah, and I am a brand new member of 4Real. I also am brand new to homeschooling, this being our very first year!

My husband and I have 6 children—ages 9 through 10 months. My three oldest are school aged, then I have 4-yo twins and the baby.

My three oldest attended a wonderful Catholic immersion school up until this year. It was fabulous and small, with combined grade levels. They taught the Faith beautifully! But even with this gem-of-a-school, something (or Someone!) started whispering to me last school year about bringing them home. It was a scary thought, because, to be honest, it was easier with some of them away for part of the day. I could get things done, and it was just calmer around here ~ ha!! Also, was I patient enough to teach them? And what about "me" time?! But deep down I knew that doing God's will takes care of all of those little fears and anxieties and worries. A real desire to homeschool our children continued to grow, especially because we could tell that over the few years they were in school, they began to grow apart from each other. It was time to work on our family dynamics and guide loving relationships among one another.

As I started figuring out what we were going to do for "school," I really felt overwhelmed by all of the options. To just keep it simple this year, we decided to use Catholic Heritage Curricula for most of our subjects. And we have been pleased. However, even being just 6 weeks into it, I already know that we will be tweaking things in the future. For one thing, I need to figure out how to bring all of the children together (at least the school-aged children) for certain subjects like religion, science and social studies. It just doesn't make sense to do these topics separately. Plus, it takes up too much time.

I am currently reading "A Little Way of Homeschooling," and I have been so inspired by the faith of these women! And even though I'm probably not the unschooling type, I am gaining nuggets of wisdom from them, and I am edified by their faithfulness to seeking out what works for their families. Every family is so different!

I also am just discovering Charlotte Mason, and I am eager to learn more! I love the idea of "living books"! But right now, I just have to work on cultivating a love of learning and reading in my children. We are having to un-learn some things that they did in school. And I probably need to unlearn some things, too ~ LOL! So, ALL of us are in a major transition, and it's important to remind each other to be patient and listen for the Lord's guidance and direction (especially on those rough days =)

Well, I think that's me in a nutshell; at least where I am at this very beginning moment of my homeschooling journey! I look forward to the discussions here at this forum. I am sure I am going to learn a lot from all of you!

God bless,
Sarah

Welcome to you, Sarah! I so enjoyed reading your introduction! It just makes me want to sit down with you and have a cup of tea!

By the way, you're just doing great! Amazing! Your balance and understanding of your limitations seem to be tempered with a joy in seeking to know and stretch toward God's will in your family! What a fantastic example you are!

I'm so glad you're here to share with us! Join in wherever you like! And please do search the amazing archives here - sometimes there is such joyful satisfaction for me when I find that someone has already asked *the* question, and I can simply read along and ponder!

Can't wait to get to know you and your homeschooling journey, Sarah!    God bless you richly during this first year!!
