Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had also never heard of Bunco before.

Re: Germany
My dh heard on the news the other day that the asylum case of the Romeike family is being challenged????(the german family who sought asylum in Tennessee)
This worries me. If the outcome is negative it won't just have an impact on the family or the german situation...
Has anyone heard anything?

I can't find anything about it being challenged, but I'll keep this family in my prayers.

I hadn't heard this latest news, but I have been very proud of the judge in my hometown of Memphis (which needs some positive publicity, let me tell you!) for recognizing the seriousness of their plight.

Erin,
I have soooo loved hearing everyone's stories - how varied they are!! It's so neat to get to know you all a little better this way and learn how you came to be aware of the vocation of home education! I'm glad you asked the question.

I feel like I've shared my own story enough times that it is probably old news and boring by now, but just in case someone is new I'll share.

My mom pulled my (much) younger sister and brother out of school to homeschool them. I was in high school at the time - 10th grade, I think. I benefited greatly in watching from the peripheral. My mom read from Charlotte Mason's ideas and her volumes - Home Education, etc. - and those ideas spoke to her. These ideas began to inform their days, and from the side I could see how exciting and transforming an experience it was to learn within that atmosphere. I fell in love with those ideas during that time. I had no idea how strongly they had formed me until I had children of my own and found myself routinely drawing from those experiences in my mind.

When Rob and I married, we agreed that home education would be in our future if we were blessed with children...good thing since my dowry consisted of home ed books!    We started from the beginning with our oldest daughter, and though there have been *those days*, overall this vocation has been so rich and full of blessings and MANY opportunities for growth in virtue and stretching outside my comfort zone, that I am very grateful to God!!!
