Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Up until this past year, my husband and I had a combined income of around $40,000 a year, give or take and depending on the year. That was with six kids and a house payment. That's doable but it doesn't leave a lot of room for extras.

Academically my goal was for my kids to be exposed to all the basics in science, be able to handle college level math, be very well read, and be able to think. That's it. if they had other interests like music or sports we'd find a way to work with that.

I pick all my own books and resources, most from Amazon, eBay and Half.com. My big splurge is a math tutor that comes in for my high school student twice a month at about $15 a session. I splurged on a microscope and also a nice telescope. That's it. We do some Bravewriter courses and I love the Bravewriter monthly language arts courses. You can save them on the computer and re-use them too. And I do CLEP prep. I'm gonna guess maybe total cost for high school academics is $300 to $400 a year but a lot of that will be less for the next kid as a lot of that stuff is reusable.

I considered NARS but it just seemed like a lot of money for a transcript.

Elena, this is great info!

We bought a decent microscope - remember that my state is biology-happy - and it's done well.

I buy a lot of books at Abebooks.com (used book site) and swap for as many literature selections as I can on Paperbackswap.com (older versions of the Norton literature anthologies are usually on offer). I've swapped for French textbooks there, too, as well as Spanish/English dictionaries. It's a much more flexible resource than one might think.

Now I'm wishing we'd bought a telescope, too!
