Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks for posting Vicki, it seems we are in a similar situation...

You might want to look at MA(Mater Amabilis) It has worked out so well for us with a splash of CHC. As others have suggested Librivox is a great resource. I have recorded This is Our Country and all of my kiddos listen in, even the 10th grader who isn't doing American History. We keep our lessons short, sometimes they do go over due to a fight or two between the 2 toddlers. Other than that we have enjoyed the reading time together. Also a BIG lifesaver for me has been our Morning Basket which Jen Mack has so lovingly shared with us all. It allows time for us all to be together in the morning before our formal day starts. It also allows me to get those things in which I have left by the side of the rode in my past years of HS. Things such as Nature Study, Art Appreciation, Music Study, and Poetry. This has really changed how the whole day goes. Everything just seems to flow better. I will pray for you to find some peace in whatever decision you and your family make.

God bless,
Cheryl

I would like to highly recommend that you check out the Classical Liberal Arts Academy. (sorry, I don't know how to link) Check out their website and prepare to be amazed. They are an online academy, totally Catholic, totally classical - which does not mean MODG. I have now signed up 4 out of 5 of my school aged children, and it is remarkable. I am even taking classes there myself. I suggest you just browse the articles that Mr. Michael (the founder of the Academy) has written. You will learn what a truly classical education consists of, you will learn how to revolve your day around prayer times, I can't even begin to tell you how much it has enhanced our home life.

Same here. The kids started up full-time in August. It's the best thing we've ever done in 10 years of homeschooling. It's VERY rigorous but the kids are totally up to the challenge. They love having something to sink their teach into. DH is satisfied as he gets to see the very concrete intellectual development not to mention the growth in the virtues, particularly patience & perseverance. Mr. Michael shares his immense spiritual & intellectual formation on the CLAA forum. The whole experience has been a re-conversion for our entire family. I've never been so pleased with our homeschooling experience.

Thanks for your input Brenda. I'd like to discuss CLAA some more so maybe I'll start a new thread in the philosophy of education section. Thanks again!!

Hey Tracy,
We are chatting about it in the high school forum. But our chat isn't limited to the high schoolers. Check it out.

Thanks to all your suggestions here we had a much more peaceful week.

First I tidied up the playroom and have begun to transform in into a learning area once again. We used it a couple of years ago but then somehow migrated down to the kitchen and then just took over the whole downstairs. Already I have seen an improvement in just keeping us all on task together and having the little ones right with me. Also it was a good opportunity to clean out trash and gather donation items. I have avioded the playroom pit for the past year or so
Another benefit is that the rest of the house stays tidier as well and it was so nice to complete our work and then go back downstairs to a living room and kitchen not covered in papers and books...

Also we began a morning basket type of deal. Starting off with some quality read alouds and prayers and discussions has helped us get moving more smoothly when it is time for math and other written work.

I am still trying to consolodate subjects and lessons. But I feel lighter already.

Thanks so much for all the advice and the hugs as well.
