Oh my goodness I am so excited to share about this new piece of furniture we just purchased called The Scrapbox.
I wasn't sure where to post about it because we ended up using it for more than our scrapbooking, sewing and craft supplies. It has become invaluable for storing all of our homeschool supplies and materials.
If anyone is an organizational nut like myself or just curious I posted more about our Scrapbox on our blog and as soon as we are finished re-hauling our school room I plan on posting pictures.

Tall Homeschool Organizer
This is the one I have been dying to purchase for YEARS!
Not, that I really NEED it, I just want it!
It looks so useful!

This is neat too! What about modifying something...kinda like a Frankenstein deal? looks like a nice idea for small spaces...which I have...(and not plenty of or there would be enough room for my OTHER ideas...)

You want mine? Really, it is great, but I am too organizing challenged to put it good use. It's the object of envy of many friends, but I am thinking of selling mine. I need something like what Leslie got, so I can close the door on my mess.
I do recommend it. It is all user error on the part of me and the kids. For you Virginia ladies, the man who makes them drives out and assembles it for you. Very nice man and very high quality materials!

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you have any doubt that I would be drooling all over this???????
I'm thinking.....SEWING CENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't even looked at the price yet...I WILL NOT allow the price to rain on my parade yet. Nope. Not lookin! I'm just going to bask in the loveliness of those doors opening...the angels singing the great alleluia over my shoulder...all those perfect bins full of notions and fabric and projects...sunshine spilling on the table as I work...
Do you think it would work as a sewing center??? Maybe there's something like this out there specifically meant as a tidy-all-in-one sewing center????
Oh, how I love organizing happys!!!!!

Oh Jennifer, I am still laughing about your reply. I felt the same way as you do now and it was love at first sight.
You can see why I didn't know if I should have posted it here or on Our Lady's Loom, but really I posted it here because it holds so much and we were able to combine it with both homeschool materials and craft stuff. Maybe I'll drop a hint over there for our faithful sewers.
It really is a nice piece of furniture and I really believe this could be the answer for many homeschooling families that have to school in the main part of their homes and struggle with the idea of where to hide everything.
The post today on my blog goes into more detail.

Oh man! That's totally cool! We're finishing a basement, so it can't be on my wishlist... even to Santa. But we have old cabinets stored away and it's totally got my mind whirring on how to redo them!! What fun ladies!

That's exactly what I thought, Jen. (I have a sewing area in the basement that could use this!!) and I'm perusing ikea for a possible copycat project.
LOL at "Great Balls of Fire" -- I didn't even know that size font existed here at our 4real world too funny. And Alleluia angels would just be perfect!
That furniture piece is beautiful, thanks for sharing, Leslie!

I've been looking at Ikea also for a while for a storage option with doors. I'd love to hear what you find. I found it to be so expensive. By the time I purchased the base cabinet, then doors, then door handles, then all the shelves and baskets/containers the cost was very high. I'd love to hear if you develop a less expensive design.

I found this unusual cabinet from the thrift store...it looks like this on the outside but has 2 rows of horizontal slots from the top to a little more than halfway the height and pull out drawers on the bottom portion. Evidently this was a homemade job from knotty pine that a guy made for himself for dress shirts on the top portion. I saw it as paper and felt storage as it looked like the more expensive paper organizers that I was longing for!
My dh says we can change the doors on it to make it deeper..sort of mounting it farther out to accommodate a table...and of course new hinges and a nice coat of paint. I saw this as a good alternative in my boys room for a desk/work area. It would keep the baby out of their work when closed...but I still like it for my crafty/paper center ideas (truth be told)
If you really wanted to alter something, I would keep an eye out at thrift stores/garage sales and don't forget the side of the road! ..even if it needs work, you wouldn't believe what a little tlc can do!
My girlfriend once had this lovely old fashioned hutch in her kitchen. When I complimented her on it, she told me that she found it with one of the lovely long legs snapped off lying on the side of the road. She lugged that baby home in her van and managed to nail the old leg back on and fill in some deep groove marks with painters putty (I think that is what you call it) and she painted it this old fashioned teal color...there were other things she fixed up ...you wouldn't believe her house and it was done with unwanted re-dos...like a little bit of wood molding that transformed a plain un-impressive shelf into something of beauty...the list goes on...You should have seen what she did with old light fixtures and a bathroom makeover on a dime!...Ok, I digress...
I love re-fashioning things! Some things made some time ago are made of better WOOD (not from the Ikea tree as dh would say) that last longer. You have to look at the POTENTIAL of the item...material, dimensions...etc. You could always add new hardware or change its color....and then there are ideas for paint and such..but that is a whole 'nother rabbit trail
HTH!

I'm actually finding LOTS of options at Craigslist -- from $50 to $$$ armoires. Many of them still look new, but the owners are upgrading. We've had some success with after-market shelving, so I'm thinking of that. Of course, it won't be exactly like the (unbelievable!! ScrapBox), but at least some semblance of it might be good enough, for us anyway. Every month or so I check Craigslist and add a bit more to my piggy bank for when we finally get around to doing the basement!

I've been doing the same thing, Stef! I was actually searching for an armoire before this amazing link was posted to transform and repurpose for a sewing center! I love Craigslist!!! People get rid of tv armoires all the time and a lot of great deals can be found on Craigslist!!!
I love hearing Donna Marie chat about her re-purposing adventures! Don't you guys?!

Waverly this is exactly what happened with me. I even went to Goodwill, and St. Vincent de Paul's but in the end the total cost came out higher than what I would have ended up paying for the Scrapbox - "Work box".
Hopefully with it only being September it will allow folks to save up some money for Christmas and or bribe grandparents, relatives etc.
