What will your motto be this school year? Or do you have a permanent one.
I like to make a sign with our motto and hang it up as a reminder.
I'm still thinking. . .
I need something that will remind me to remain optimistic. Maybe I'll see what St Paul has to offer.

I'm not sure what we'll use, but I'm reading a book about Pope John 23rd and his motto was
obedience and peace
sounds pretty good for a homeschool, too, doesn't it?

So "Stop poking your sister and get back to work" isn't a good motto? 
Seriously, this is a great idea. I'll have to think of one. I have sort of a personal motto (when I remember)- "I *get* to..." You know, instead of "I *have* to...wash the dishes, homeschool, clean the floor" I can say "I *get* to wash the dishes, others aren't so lucky to have food and dishes"
Maybe I can change it a little for homeschooling... or maybe I'll just think of something else.

Tracy, I like that prayer.
Sarah, when we started homeschooling, we named our school Dom Bosco Universal Academy, after St John Bosco. Considering that he was a teacher of boys and the way he made learning fun for them, I thought that he would be a good patron for us.
Then I thought about what I wanted our school to be, and came up with a motto that I hope would encompass all our hopes. Our motto is "Learning for the fun of it!"

Loren, I love it! St. John Bosco is who I regularly turn too, throughout the day for help with patience..I really like his quote: An hour of PATIENCE is worth more to God than a day of fasting!

"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. St. Paul's letter the Phillipians 4:8

We call ourselves "Holy Family Academy" and we adapted the Catholic Familyland:
"All for the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus,
all through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, all in union with Good St. Joseph
...all totally in union with the Divine and most Holy Will of God!"
And thanks to our dear friend Anne, we SING this!...darn..can't find the link on her site..but it goes like this:
"Heart of Jesus, I adore thee,
Heart of Mary, I implore thee,
Heart of Joseph pure and just,
in these three I place my trust!"
now to come up with a T shirt design....hmmm.....

Hmmmm....interesting food for thought. I'd love to have a school motto to inspire us through the year.The St Paul quote is excellent, of course, but right now I think something more reflective of our current mental state would be more along the lines of "Life's a beach." LOL!
No, really I do want to put some thought into this because I think it might be an excellent 1st day back activity to make and decorate a banner with our motto.

Our children fell in love with St. Benedict a few years ago and our oldest when he was Confirmed had St. Benedict as his Confirmation name. All our kids want St. Benedict as their Confirmation name. Even our girls. I've got to look that up. The girls always use girl saint's names when being confirmed, right?

I'm not sure if this a hard and fast rule. My daughter chose St. Francis of Assisi as her patron when she was confirmed.
St. Francis is also our homeschool/family patron (St. Francis Academy), and on my blog I have "Laughing, Loving, and Living Life"...so, would that count as a motto?

We know a lovely young lady who choose Maximilian for her Confirmation name. Our Pastor is wonderful and would have never allowed it if it wasn't all right.

My mum had Peter as her confirmation name when she converted as a teenager. I think (back in 1973) that she officially had Petra.
I'd like a motto. Our "school" is St Thomas More Academy and we have a statue of St Thomas looking down on us, and a motto would be good - even if only I can read it - maybe something about patience and not giving way to despair?
