Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I guess I should have been more specific. Patrick is already being recruited to the highest levels of soccer from his play on his club teams. Soccer is one of those ports where high school isn't really where the recruiting and the intense competition happens. But...there is a local Catholic high school coach who wants to build a super team and he wants Paddy to play for him. He did a shadow day last fall and decided that playing soccer in high school wasn't "worth wasting all that time in school' . So, we told the coach that we'd look into homeschool options, just as we did when Christian wanted to play on the local public school basketball team. And, like then, it appears that you cannot be a bona fide homeschool student and play in the larger high school leagues. We have looked at the Christian school option, but that required using them as an umbrella and we got tangled up with statements of faith and curriculum choices.

The Fairfax Homeschool Sports teams do offer opportunities. It didn't work out for Christian but I know kids it's blessed.

Christian has played AAU basketball all these years and now, he's going to return to martial arts as well, since that's another place where school doesn't matter.

Thanks so much for all the links. It's good to know we've overturned every stone here looking at the possibilities.

The other thing about the Fairfax Homeschool League - it is a Christian League and so I presume no Sunday games - the main reason we don't do travel leagues right now. Cool!
(apologizing for any bad typing - my glasses have gone missing and I am as blind as a bat without them!)

If you keep clicking around on there Marilyn, I think some of the varsity teams have their schedules up. You'll see they are all weeknight games (I believe) because they are all with various schools...so I'm thinking yay no weekEND games at all! We are going to have ds do some practicing with the middle school boys bball team this Sept. We'll see how it goes??? Although I think there may be a weekend here or there with tournaments at distant places (like more distant than normal!).

I remember reading years ago in the Post, I think when my oldest was only 4, about a local boy who homeschooled and was a star soccer player. And then when he entered the 12th grade, he decided to go to public school (Robinson! talk about a big school to start out in!) for that last year for scouts to see him. He ended up with several offers (went to Wm&Mary full) and had an over 4.0 something gpa. In the article he said it was boring and slow but he was glad it made getting into college even easier. I found it slightly amusing!

There is an hs option for competitive sports! For those of you in NoVA there is the Fairfax Homeschool Sports Association. I know of a mom whose son has received a full scholarship after playing on their football team. They have several sports, boys and girls. They play area schools, including Seton and JP and some Christian schools (and I think there is even a public school or two on some of their schedules). We haven't done anything with them personally yet, but like I said, I have friends who have and have only good things to say!

When our oldest son, Billy, was a junior in high school, he was too old and too big to play for the local league anymore. We pursued all options - private and public schools. Every avenue brought us to a dead end. Long story short, my husband and I started a homeschool football team - the Kings. Our first season we only had six boys. By Billy's senior year we had a team with uniforms and a game schedule. This dream became a reality because of the Fairfax Homeschool Sports Association and the many dedicated parents who continue to coach and carry out the administration of the team. I no longer am associated with the team because I don't have a son old enough to play. That will change in a couple of years! However, I continue to follow the team and have several friends with boys who play for the Kings.

The team is a Christian football organization with Protestant and Catholic coaches. There are no games or practices on Sundays. This year the team is playing several local Catholic high school teams. It is all very exciting.
