Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The website looks wonderful! So much work you ladies have put into it. Thank you so much for sharing!
I would love to hear from moms who are using mainly just serendipity for your days. I would like to use a combination of serendipity, little saints, and Catholic Mosaic. Do you feel that would be complete enough? In my mind it is, but since I have never done this, I really don't have a clue.

Marcia, if you mean just using the Alphabet Path with younger children, that is exactly what I am doing for my preschooler. I will be using Catholic Mosaic as well. I have the Little Saints book, and I have used it in the past, but it is too time intensive for me this year with a baby coming in February (and of course several older students to educate as well).I'm going to throw in some fun number recognition and counting with the gnomes for math.

Do you think Serendipity with Catholic Mosaic would be substantial enough with a 7 year old?
I had looked at doing Oak Meadow, but Serendipity is just so pretty, I just am not sure if it would be enough for a 7 year old since I have not done it.
I think for my 4 yr old this will be perfect. I am so grateful that this is all available.

If I use Serendipity only ...do I have to supplement for math with my 3rd grader? My girls 5 and 6 ...will that be enough? It looks like the perfect curriculum. Thank you for this site. I feel a bit unprepared because I am new at this whole idea but I am excited too. HOw do I approach it?

No one should count on Serendipity for the entirety of their math curriculum this year. We're in the process of revamping it.I think it will make a lovely addition to a bare bones basic program but we really can't promise you'll have the whole thing when you need it. Substantial chunks of it remain to be written and since we seem to be prone to floods, hurricanes, and tricky pregnancies, we can't make any promises about timing. Please remember, Serendipity is a shared resource: we are sharing what we're doing in our own homes and our own homes aren't always neat and tidy and according to plan. There will be bumps and glitches. Those are substantially reduced when you use themes we've already developed and completed (like the Alphabet Path), but even there, we're still tweaking and improving.

We've got a whole bunch of drafts lined up right now. Cindy is just drying out in Melbourne Florida and Colleen is battening down the hatches in coastal Louisiana. Marisa and I are learning every day that babies 8 and 9 are a bit more challenging to carry.

Please pray for Colleen and her family. If nothing else, it's hard to write those gnome posts when you've just evacuated your whole family (including the animals)to a state north and east of home.

Elizabeth

I was planning on writing you an email then thought I'd share here for the sake of any other skeptics like me.

Firstly I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to you and the other ladies for your generosity in sharing all you have created and designed so freely. God Bless you all.

Along with many other ladies here I first skimmed over your Alphabet Path etc when you started sharing, thought "that's really nice but I don't have anyone at that stage and furthermore that's really not my teaching style but I'm pleased for Elizabeth that she has found a rhythm that is nurturing her as well as the children." I was determined to 'keep my eyes on my own work' and making gnomes etc seemed too crafty to me. I knew it was important I accepted my limitations. Well God had other plans.

Although dd(7 next month) was reading fluently and flying through her math book she started becoming absent for most of lesson time. She told me "School is no fun" and didn't even want to listen to the read alouds most of the time. Now I wasn't too stressed about her being absent, after all she had already achieved much of what her peers were still learning. But attitude to me is a major issue, there was no way I wanted a child of mine to dislike learning. Something had to be done.

In desperation I turned to Gnomes and Gnumbers, yes she knew many of the concepts already but there it was a gentle, visually appealing approach that was so simple even I managed to understand it (after reading a few times )all set out for me. When I started making the Gnomes she became intrigued and insisted on helping sew the costumes (she sews very nicely) [BTW there is only ONE place in all of Australia to buy the doll bodies and the price was rather high, so I've made mine simply from dolly pegs and I'm rather happy with the look, Ill share pictures when I find my camera cord]

The result? Well this rather skeptical, get on with the business mother, is SOLD!! (I even have many of my non-Catholic hsing mums here joining in the fun) Somehow the lessons speak to my daughter on a level that she needed, and somehow they speak to me on a level I was unaware needed nurturing. They are so gentle, they slow me down to stop and look around, they take me back in a way to when I was a mother of only a few and not many, to re-discover the world from my child's eyes.

Dd is LOVING it, she is EATING it up and the older children are all listening in avidly, (picture my 11yr old son sitting on your blog reading and scrolling before I had printed out the lessons. ) It is not only the story but the artwork that is meeting a need in her. Her book is beautiful (I was skeptical on that too I thought she could do her lessons on single paper and bind later but at the last moment found a visual art diary and really see the benefits in her working this way.) Dd is 'working' on her book at all times of the day and night

The older children also are picking up the block and stick crayons and pulling out the pastels and creating works of art, this is something that my teenagers have not done for years. (I hasten to add the materials are always available they just haven't chosen to do so since they had art lessons )

I just wanted to share with you and the other ladies how all your hard work and generous sharing is touching this family here in Australia. Thank you and God Bless

(We'll keep Colleen and family in our prayers)

Just want to add my appreciation too. Our school year has been so different this year. My favorite part is being able to integrate so many different age levels into the same plans. Now that I've seen how it's done, I couldn't imagine ever studying separate time periods with different kids.

Some of the read aloud titles for American History have been beyond my little ones listening level but I've enjoyed them myself. I wish we had read these when I was in school! I'm so thankful for the talents and hard work of all the contributors. Keep up the amazing work!

Blessings,

Just wanted to share a picture of our gnomes The reason I share is our gnomes are different as they are simply made from dolly pegs, the gnome bases you have available in
America are only available from one place here in Australia and very expensive. just wanted to share in case anyone else is in the same predicament.
