Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Vanna,I just buy some Seton books without enrolling. We follow our own schedual and I make my own lesson plans.Marianne is right,if you'd totally follow Seton's lesson plans you would go bonkers.
My oldest is in 7th gr,so this year we went with Kolbe. But for my little ones,I mainly use Seton. However,I use the Kolbe science in all of the grades.
MODG is also very good. Also, the Kolbe Lit.is very good,
it starts in the 4th grade and goes through 8th.

I usually buy the syllabus and then look through it to figure out what I will follow and what I won't. Some of the literature I substitute from something I might already have by looking through Laura Berquist's DYYOCC... that way I don't spend unnecessary money.

For example you might want to use a Seton Religion as your main religion book instead of following Baltimore catechism with narration (although I love the religion portion of MODG).

You might follow literature to the "T" but substitute some books from the library to keep the price down.

I use a spelling book instead of WRTR and switch to WRTR in the older grades.

I usually followed the math, science, history, geography and religion according to the MODG (loosely).

Sometimes I follow the english and sometimes choose another program.

Just some of my thoughts :)

I also thought "school out of a box" was not really "homeschooling." But I think it's a matter of how you do it. If you just hand them the workbook, well that's nothing special. But if you sit down with them, read the stories etc much discussion ensues. You don't have to fill in the blanks if you don't want to, you can use them as discussion points. My children actually like getting grades, and like knowing they are doing something that other kids do.

I think this is an important point. A lot depends upon your and your dc's personalities and what you like to do as "school". While this is a Catholic CM board, there are of course other options out there for families and Seton is one of them. Our family is enrolled in Mother of Divine Grace for Fall, but we have at times been enrolled with Seton, most recently last year for a high school level single science course (Earth Science) which was EXCELLENT, btw. Not all of us are good at doing the Sonlight thing. For myself personally, just looking at the Sonlight catalog gives me an anxiety attack, because I just find it overwhelming . You need to do what you think is the best fit for your particular family. Some families like to get schoolwork done and save the living books for family read alouds, for example. We have done that before, and really enjoyed it. Homeschooling is homeschooling, no matter what you choose as your curriculum. Every family has different needs at different times. Hope this helps!
