Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Following the Serendipity ladies down all their trails! Or at least most of them.

It's always hard to post after you, Theresa!

For me, I'm excited to be adding our 5yo to our official roster. She's so smart and enjoys learning. It's a breath of fresh air (at least for a few minutes, LOL, then she gets "tired" ). But because she's so young and smart, I can say "Sure, go play, don't worry about it! )

I have a few new things this year. For the first time in 4 years, I am writing my own curriculum. We are doing a few blocks on Biblical histoy as well as a block on biomes, animal habitats and how people live around the world. I am finding that this is where being a book-aholic comes in handy.

My other new thing is teaching three children. My youngest starts K next month. I'm a bit nervous as to how I am going to fit everyong in but, from experience, I know that it will take awhile but I will eventually find our rhythm.

Blessings,
Julia

We have added some Sonlight to this years work--are favorite thing to do is read: read aloud, read on our own, read together tandem style--I think it should be a good fit for us.

Of course-it will be very liberally sprinkled with our Catholic Faith.

New this year: I will only have the 9yo and the toddler at home. My two other girls will be giving 2nd grade and K a try at our neighborhood school. That will take some adjustment.

We are going to use the history plans from Serendipity and Artistic Pursuits as well!

For us it's following the ideas and format in the Good News Planners, having the chickens (their first pets...too bad we'll be eating a few of them ) and living without a fulltime job ....this part will be a learning experience for us all!

We're also hosting the Montessori group at our house, and even though this is our 2nd year doing it, dd 2.75 will be in it. I really hope she doesn't need me to sit with her in the class...I need to be upstairs with baby and big boys and funneling kids in and out. But she's pretty independent, so we'll see!

I'm excited and looking forward to following the Simply Charlotte Mason guides for our daughter. I am THRILLED that I finally understand how to better follow Charlotte Mason's philosophy, and feel like I have a bit of a safety net below me now. It's been a Godsend for me after 13 years of homeschooling!

I will be using Simply Charlotte Mason's online organizer to keep track of everything we will be doing. This is really going to help me with all the Catholic Mosaic books this year. Last year, I had a bunch of the books but would lose track of the days and miss out reading them on the feast days.

Also, last year I made the mistake of using all my budget on a core from Sonlight plus more non-religious stuff so I did not have enough money left over for all the religious formation I had intended on using. This year, I bought my faith formation materials first so I have everything I wanted to use this year, mainly from CHC.

To actually be home and DO school.
Discipline-going to the basement to start our day and focus on math and LA.
Sonlight 3 history(ds and I are VERY excited about this).

Last year we started not leaving the house until late afternoon. We got so much done

Hoping this year will be successful and everyone(mom included)will be happy.

Teaching Textbooks and Trisms. And chasing TWO little girls around!

Getting ready to move back to Ohio when the school year is over!!    Can you tell we're just a wee bit excited about that.

I'd also like to get better organized at keeping the house clean and picked up. Adding two toddlers in 18 months has sure thrown my organization out the window. I think I might try the "one-room-a-day" method and see how that works.

I made a really pretty binder this year...went and bought the "heavy duty" variety in a blue I love, and printed out tabs in a cute font, and put scrapbooking paper on the cover that matches the binder. Its my "mom control binder" for the schoolyear. It has all the kids syllabi I wrote, the answer keys for the CHC spellers we use, the ILL answer key Margot has on her website and the lessons my one dd will be doing this year, the list of readers I have planned for 2 of my dd's, my littlest's reading schedules, a section for my high schooler's syllabi/answer keys, etc...in short, everything I spent way too much time digging for last year! Its all in one place, and its so pretty, I don't even mind it sitting on the corner table between my couch and loveseat in the livingroom! Hopefully, this will give me a few extra minutes here and there, this schoolyear...

Books, we're on the same wavelength! Your binder sounds 'just right'.
I'm in the middle of my homeschool year here in Australia but I was having a read through Elizabeth's posts about her Home Companion Notebook and thought this would be the right time to finally put one together. As I'm not actually planning 'school' I have the time to plan my planner...that sounds dumb, but it's also excited me.
I also agree that it needs to be pretty, and something Elizabeth said on her blog stuck with me : "We're both very visual and we agreed they had to be pretty. We had to want to handle them frequently and we wanted to be rewarded when we looked at them." Yes! I'm the same! Yesterday I bought a red binder, an in-your-face red that says, "Do not ignore me!" , and today I'm off to buy some nice scrapbooking paper for the dividers and to slide into the front cover - my only problem is that I have come up with 15 divisions - I will seriously need to bring that back to about 10.

Amy,

Enjoy that 5 y.o.! I just finished a year with a smart funny eager 5 y.o., too. Loved every minute. Now she's six and I'm looking forward to every year ahead with her! We have to count our victories, however small!
