Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For the young ones through 6th, I love MODG (and it is Catholic). I have used a lot of their things for all 4 of our kids so far and plan to use the plans for Kindergarten for our almost 5 year old. I love the 3 to 5 minute memory work exercises for poetry, latin, catechism, phonograms, etc. I really love Laura Berquist's books and her literature recommendations. MODG has really worked for us thus far:)

thanks for all the input so far.

Books,
I really appreciate your thoughts. Unfortunately, one of the reasons I am looking at packaged is the fact that I will not be schooling them together. That was just did not work for us last year.

I am fighting depression pretty hard right now b/c my yds is adopted, TPR was completed 2yrs. ago, but the bios are currently suing us for custody. They changed their mind. It is so hard to deal calmly with life on a day to day basis while I wait to see whether or not I will be forced to give up my son to people that chose to give him away once already. (He was 4 at the time).

I may completely hate a packaged, but I am just not sure that I can do it on my own this year.

Lord have mercy! I will pray for you, Saigemom. What a horrible position to be in.

Saigemom, my heart nearly broke reading your latest post. I will definitely pray for your family. Given what you are all going through, I am tempted to suggest that you keep up with math and language arts at their own levels and just read lots of books and call it good for the year?

I'm having a hard time figuring out what to suggest because I'm not sure what you are hoping to gain except not having to plan. If you separate them all, the time involvement for history/science increases exponentially. Would it be possible to have your oldest work independently on these subjects and the 7 and 6 yr olds to work together, or are they monkeying around too much to get anything done?

Just had another thought...are the people involved with the custody situation making it so that you need to use something more official looking? If that's the reason, that would change my recommendations. I'd suggest MODG, I think.

Saigemom-Earlie you had mentioned considering Serendipity for your family....you can preview the initial lesson in each area we'll covering this year in the first four posts here. And here is a general overview of how it all fits together. Hope that helps.
