Okay, since private schools qualify, then let me point you to this thread about the University of Portland where I shared some thoughts earlier.
I mentioned there that my cousin's daughter attended (graduated last spring). I never talked to her or my cousin directly but heard through the family grapevine she was happy there (was a Seton homeschooler through 8th grade if that helps). I could get in touch with her for further info if you wanted.

See I said my info was from many moons ago
As far as liberal goes, I think there is only maybe 5 or 6 in the country that don't fit that description. Were we talking Catholic or recommended Universities? I think I missed something.
If you want a solid Catholic school in Ca., than as you already know, TAC is the place to go. Right Willa???

Lisa and Mary,
That is a bit bizarre. I wasn't Catholic when we were there and dh went through that falling away when away at school thing.. though there were a couple of holidays (Easter? maybe) he took me to Mass because he didn't want to miss it. And we did go through the pre-cana classes there.

My husband went to San Jose State. The selection on English Lit is nice. And there's an awesome parish nearby: Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara.

I would recommend she stay as far away as possible from all California public schools.
God Bless

I went to CSU-Fresno as a grad student on scholarship. I only know that the political science department was great. Fresno itself was a quirky town...hard to describe...I didn't feel that it had much of a college town feel or that the college was very integrated with the town. This was in 91...not sure what it is like there now.
Praying for you both!
Love,

Holy Cow, Angie!!!
Did we never discuss this . . . I went to CSU Fresno, graduated from there. My family's hometown (where I am right now, by the way) is just a bit south of Fresno. I agree it's a weird campus. It is still very much a commuter school and as I saw yesterday as I drove past it, a lot has grown up around it. Anyway, I wasn't that impressed with it.I think it's rather "blah." I got my teacher's certificate from CSU Hayward, now called CSU East Bay, and I loved it there.
Someone mentioned TAC, but they do not accept transfer students; everyone must start as a freshman no matter how many years of school you have already attended - I went after already having an undergrad degree, teaching certificate and five years of teaching.

Holy Cow is right, Margot! No, we have never pieced this little puzzle together before. I knew that you were from CA and I'm sure that I mentioned that I lived in CA, probably focused on our time in Sacto/Davis. I hope our paths keep crossing, friend! Praying your visit is blessed!
Blah is the word, unfortunately. But blah isn't always a bad thing .
Love,
