Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Cay, this is wonderful news! Congratulations to Kayleigh!!!      My Stephen attends UL on the highest TOPS level and two scholarships. He loves it there - I'm so proud of him! He auditioned and was accepted into the university orchestra and receives a stipend for that...he has more money than I do....

Kayleigh has...a 3.9 GPA,

I stand corrected.
She does have a 4.0. The school records show it as so.

But, you know me...I don't base much on mere grades. Or the work they actually do in schools. Or the importance of college-bound.

But I am immensely proud of my girl.

She had to write a brief bio for one particular scholarship which she has to send out by month's end and I thought I'd share some of what she wrote:

"My whole life I have been encouraged to be active in the service of others. Of course, one of the reasons we are encouraged is every parent's hope that it will keep their child out of trouble and, in my experience, it has. Since middle school I have been involved in numerous clubs and events within my school, church, and community. I have met other students aquiring the same interests as myself. I enjoy keeping myself busy and meeting new people. In my spare time I love to read which is one hobby many people my age do not do anymore. I have taken French for the past nine years. At first I started taking it as my foreign language for graduation, but the more I took it the more I enjoyed learning the language. It has given me a sense of accomplishment because now I can fluently speak the language. I plan to minor in French so I can learn as much as I can about their country and culture. Another interest I have would be working out and staying healthy. I try to maintain a healthy diet and I have always liked to learn about nutrition. While attending college I hope to take classes that will further my education on health and how I can help others be healthier and happier. A class that has given me a new perspective on life and what I can gain through my work and actions is the Nursing Assistant class I am currently taking. Through working in the hospitals and nursing homes, I have learned a lot about responsibility and respect for life. This scholarship would aid me tremendously in my future academic endeavors. I have already been accepted to MSU and I plan to obtain my bachelors degree with a major in Family and Consumer Science and a minor in French."

The girl is so much more focused than I was at her age.

Cay---If Kayleigh ends up at UL, she can come for dinner whenever she likes! Or I'll go check on her whenever you like. I have a nephew starting UL next year who might like to know a good Catholic girl....

I'm crying here again!!!! Oh, CAY! I wish I had the words to express my admiration for you both and the hope that you and Kayleigh bring to others! My sons are a bit young for Kayleigh but I would LOVE for my dd to meet yours...they share so much in common. I'm going to have Devin read through this topic...perfect timing.

And, not to my surprise, we share so much in common, Cay. I agree with everything you wrote...you just express it a whole lot better than I do . At this moment, I'm feeling very satisfied with the route we have taken with Devin's education by not making academics the top and sole priority of her high school years. Knowing other wonderful, faithful, and happy teens through this forum, just increases my confidence in our efforts to help our children to know, love and serve God first, to build their character and strengthen their virtue, to take care of themselves physically, to have strong and healthy relationships, to serve others, and so much more. Thank you, thank you!

Hey, I want her to meet MY son!

So when do we start a match-making forum here at 4Real? I'm in!

Love,

Mary and Mary, believe it or not, Kayleigh has never had a boyfriend. She'll be 18 in May.

Well, since I opened my big mouth in this thread , could I ask some special intention prayers because...

hold your breath...

Kayleigh has met someone...

AND...he isn't Catholic. But he's so great! ...from what we can tell anyway. He attends the local Christian school, turned 18 in April, was offered a full baseball scholarship to a Christian school in Arkansas but opted to go to MSU. I think he wants to become a coach.

They met through friends and have gone out since I wrote the above. Perfect timing, huh? They usually end up here at the house where he kicks his shoes off, cooks with Kayleigh, lounges around the living room with Corey, and jokes endlessly with Garrett, and makes paper airplanes for the two younger girls. He's nice and so funny.

He has blended into our family life so easily, I'm almost scared to foretell the future...incase it's just a passing acquaintance. Of course, if Kayleigh's happy, I'm happy.

He isn't Catholic but that's about the only I can find with him.

Of course, it's all still so new, and we are looking at 4 years of college.

I have trust and faith in God's will and His plans over my own, but I would value your prayers greatly.

And I won't write anymore because Kayleigh would be appalled that I've shared this much.

Please pray. Thank you all.

A baseball player...that would totally work for THIS family!...in ~ six years. Can I place that order, please?

Cay, I'm zipping my lip right along with you, friend. Oh the day a young man hangs around our family kicking off his shoes and making paper airplanes...I'm not ready LORD!...and I'm praying .

Love,

It's funny, Angie. He takes them off at the door so I think his mom trained him well.
