Kayleigh not only scored high on the ACT test (required for college entrance in LA) and has TOPS (pays for college in LA) and a 3.9 GPA, she has just been awarded two scholarships. I'm keeping the amounts mum for personal reasons, but we are so proud of her.
The latest scholarship was through dh's employer. She had to write a five-page essay on "Why We Celebrate Labor Day". 5 pages? "on Labor Day" is what I asked when dh brought the forms home for her to fill out.
She wrote the essay and she won! We go to Baton Rouge in a couple weeks to claim the winning ticket.

Yipppppppeeee! Where does Kayleigh want to go, does she know yet? LSU could always use beautiful female students (both intellectually and morally) and it sure would be fun to have my ds meet your dd!
Congrats! Cay and hugs to Kayleigh.

Kayleigh wanted to go to UL. We asked her to stay home her first year and go to McNeese (my alma mater). That's the plan anyway. We have toured UL and she loves it there and might transfer. Not sure yet. She's been accepted already. Plans might even change this summer. We have lots of family in the Lafayette area so that's a strong calling card. One of the scholarships, however, is from McNeese and can only be used there.

You ladies are so fun!
Mary and Mary, believe it or not, Kayleigh has never had a boyfriend. She'll be 18 in May. Seriously! She has lots of "boy" friends and always manages to get asked to dances and such. The guys love her. But we've never had to worry about her going out because she and her date always go with a group of friends. Even the guy who asked her to prom is a good friend of hers and they are going with several other couples. Her daddy and I are simply relieved. Mark hopes she stays clear of boys until after college. Kayleigh is a beautiful girl and strong in her faith and family and friends. Our pride goes far beyond academics.
But, least this become too much of a brag , let me remind everyone that I firmly believe in the power of grandparents' prayers and kneeling certainly doesn't hurt. And I'm also one of those weird hsing mothers who doesn't believe a college degree is the ultimate road for every child. I've seen too much and heard too much (not to mention my own personal experience as well as my dh's and the journey of my oldest son) to believe that a college degree means a well-rounded person or secures a perfect future.
I sure hope and pray she finds a good Catholic boy (perhaps either of your sons ). Her daddy hopes she waits until she's finished with college.
Right now I'm fighting my fears of the college lifestyle and all the crazy scenerios I hear and trying my best to meet her rejoicing and plans for the future with faith and true joy. But nothing would make me happier than to see her meet someone like her...stable, loving, bubbly, with a thorough love for God, family, and friends.
