I'm honestly not sure - the program changes about every other year (Studio 2B is gone, for example - so references to things in that program for older girls are not relevant any longer) and that has created much confusion. I prefer the Boy Scouts' model, and if AHG goes more along those lines it will be a stable and lasting influence on girls.

My girls love Little Flowers!!!
The best part, and this is what I LOVE, is who our group leader is..... Rachel Watkins, who wrote the books!
Not only is she a great writer, but also an awesome friend.
Okay, bragging time is over, lol.

My oldest dd has done AHG, and we really liked the program.
She also did GS.
Where we live now, there is no AHG option, and my dd8 has been in GS for the past 3 years. So far, completely positive experience.
(I have been a leader for both AHG and GS.)

We like AHG as well. Our parish began sponsoring a troop this year, and my 7-year-old daughter has loved it. I am impressed with the badge program -- what she has to do at her rank is far more challenging and involved than what my 8yo had to do to earn things as a Tiger Cub (and we are HUGE Boy/Cub Scouting fans as well as AHG, so that's not a complaint about either one, just an observation). It's been a great complement to homeschooling, since the badge work motivates us to do things we'd otherwise never get around to doing.

My 7yo is in ps and has a friend in girl scouts. Now my dd is asking to join and I'm very leery. I'm trying to figure out where all the money goes... and comes from. I have figured out that the council in our area receives support from United Way ( ), but I can't find details of their operating expenses in their annual report. Still, the United Way thing makes me want to say no... There isn't a Little Flowers group at church, and there is no AHG group close to us either. I know DH would not like the Trailblazer option as he sees scouting as a social opportunity. I don't think I have any other options other than talking to someone at church about starting a Little Flowers group?

If you'd have families interested in Little Flowers.. you might also have families interested in AHG. Even if you aren't up to starting a troop.. you can get together with other families doing a trailblazer program.

A response to all, but particularly to the person who posted about "providing the full picture" ----
I was a lifetime member (technically I still am, but I'm working on that).
When I became pregnant for my son, I was then co-leading a troop of high school girls. There was a song the national association wanted all girls to learn - I suppose a more discerning hosting organization and co-leader could have made the choice to avoid the use of the song, but it was going to be sung at all sorts of large group gatherings in the upcoming months.
THe song was an encouraging song of all the things that girls could grow up to be. It was a really great, inspiring song!
But as we went over the last few words, and felt my son move inside of me, I realized the most important things that a ***WOMAN*** can be were not listed:
a wife
a mother
a sister
a daughter
These are things that men can never be. NEVER.
And these girls were being encouraged to do all the things that men can do, but were not being given the skills and encouragement to be what *ONLY* they can be!
We have to deal with discussing teen pregnancy with Junior Girl Scouts, because these girls are not being encouraged in their own personal self-dignity.
In getting rid of the "differences" between men and women, women are being far more hurt than pre-feminism days.
They know inside of them that male and female complement one another - but that image is SO distorted by everything that Girl Scouts starts planting in a young lady's heart, soul and mind from the early days in Daisy Scouts... that image is SO distorted, that we end up in a terrible situation such as the Junior handbook discussion brought up earlier in this thread.
I walked away and haven't been back. I am first and foremost a mother - proving I can do and be anything else is a waste of my time. YES, women can be both and I'm not taking away from that.
But they don't give the full picture - and they don't provide all the resources needed.
And all the other connections (with PP and others) are the icing on the cake for me. My decision was made before I knew about all of that.

Yes, this looks really interesting.
Our Bishop (Auxiliary) wrote an article for our diocese newspaper last year on the topic. It's good to see it being addressed by voices in the Church so that people are aware.
The good about Girl Scouting, and a caution

ok ETWN Streaming Audio & Video
The first link on the left is the us english video stream.
It seems to be a live feed from the tv station.. so it's not like watching a video of a show but rather watching it as it's broadcast so whatever order the shows show up so I guess you'd just need to find out when the show is broadcast by time and time zone. so like if it was 3pm est then out here with pst we'd watch at noon local time.
I think...
So now all I have to figure out is the tv schedule.. and what time zone the streaming is in.

Well, at first that's what I thought, but then, for some reason after clicking around I figured I couldn't assume that. But, I think now, I'll go back to assuming it....

I have actually never heard of American Heritage Girl! I'm so happy to discover there is actually a troop right here in my very town! My daughter is only 3, but hey. It never hurts to plan ahead!
