Little glitch. Quick prayers please?
His coach just called and wants him to come in to talk this afternoon...he's a nervous wreck. He's small and we've had a feeling he'll get redshirted. Might not be the worst thing--dh sees the positive in it. Michael is not happy with even the suggestion.

Praying for him, Elizabeth.
Trying to think back to my college days not so long ago...I second the bathrobe. And I also echo whomever said not to bring too much--really, don't. At least in my dorm room, there was just so little room. Extra pillows are great. And lots of family photos!

You might also want to consider getting some crates. They are great for loading stuff up and can be flipped sideways, stacked and used for extra shelving. We also took two plates, tableware for four (you use a lot of spoons with various treats), one pot, and few cups and coffee/soup mugs. And if he likes coffee, hot tea, or cocoa a little kettle is great.
I would say a land line telephone, but I wonder if anyone in college even uses one anymore with the cell phone boom. And I would recommend a battery-powered alarm clock. Depending on how old his dorm is, plugs may be limited.
Good luck!

No suggestions for dorm life (I lived at home) but I am praying about his meeting and for him.

I'm pretty much feeling crushed like grapes. I think the whole summer is catching up with me. I'm going to unplug for a few days. Thank you so very much for your prayers.
He's settled and sounded pretty content last night. Katie is really struggling with it all.
Today, I'm going to spend a whole lot of time loving my little girl (and keeping her from calling Michael every ten minutes ).

I'll increase my prayers for you, dear. I know how hard this can be...
And hold tight to Katie, it will help you to feel better too.

We sent our oldest with all that has been mentioned, but I have one more addition.
I got a small crucifix for my oldest ds's dorm room to keep over his bed. It is ambout 4 or 5 inches high. I got it at one of the local Catholic supply stores. He used the blue sticky stuff, and it hung on the wall really well.
Oh, and his Rosary, Bible, holy water and prayer books.
God Bless,

Double sigh. These are all things I had long ago envisioned packing off for my eldest when he went to seminary or college. Now I'm sending him off and the best I can do would be sneaky things like sewing a medal into bedding or something. He's going to a Catholic college but makes it clear to me that he is NOT Catholic anymore. Although, the Brother at Walsh who gave the orientation presentation did capture his interest enough to sign up for his Catholocism class using Tolkein (He's the professor that had Lewis and Tolkein as teachers at Oxford and my ds was VERY impressed by that)
So, anyway, Matthew's departure is bitter-sweet, I've already had to say goodbye to my ideals anyway. I'm starting a novena to the Holy Spirit tomorrow.
Blessings for all those families with college bound kids!
Theresia

Theresia,
I will pray for your Matthew! (My oldest ds is also Matthew.) This age is hard, and I have concerns about my others. So, no wisdom, just prayers! And prayers for all the rest who are packing their "kiddies" off to college. (Won't matter how old they are, always our children!)
God Bless,
Stacy in MI
