Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter will be five in late November, but we're starting a little Kindergarten work now. Here's our plan:

Math-Singapore EarlyBird 2A and 2B

Reading-mix of home-made manipulatives, Bob books, and ideas from a book on Phonemic awareness from the library

Science-Singapore EarlyBird science

Read aloud time in the afternoon and audio-books at lunchtime.

Unschool everything else.

We just started school time back on Monday. I had planned to re-start "100 Easy Lessons" (we made it through the first 20 lessons in the spring but she couldn't blend), but within two days I realized that it wasn't going to work. I don't think she really liked it to begin with and starting it from the beginning was boring and annoying for her. So I devised my own method which is actually showing some results, giving her more confidence.

The science was originally meant to be used as an alternative to the math a few days a week, but it has become an everyday thing now. I wanted to pace her math, because I really don't want to start Primary Math 1A with her until she is closer to six because you really have to master each lesson in Singapore Primary before moving to the next one. If she keeps at this pace, though, I may have to get the Power Math K workbook to buy more time.

My daughter has been asking to learn to read for a year. So that is one of her interests. She is interested in doing workbooks. Her big interest this month has been playing Crazy Eights and we just moved up to Uno. She also likes princesses, fairies, and fashion. But her biggest interest since she was two is The Beatles. We've been twice this summer to see the local Beatles Tribute band, and she wants to go again.
