Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Could I chime in here? What is the purpose of the list? If it's to keep track of what 4Real blogs are available, then a thread here will suffice. If it's to facilitate addition into blogrolls/sidebars, an OPML file that someone will maintain is best. If it's to facilitate blog-surfing, the webring would be easiest; we can have a thread here with a button available and links to the application, etc. If it's reading 4Real blog entries, then a shareable feed would be the answer, or maybe a group blog feed, either here if that's doable, or fed into a separate 4Real group blog somewhere with a link posted as a sticky here.

Different applications for different goals; I'll be happy to help out wherever I can, whichever one you choose (or more, or all)

Just my .02

Karen, I liked your phrasing of a poll question, and thanks to Janette for "volunteering" to put it up!

I think we should put it to the 4Real members. No sense in doing something if prople aren't going to use it!

I also like Stef's idea of different buttons/links depending on what someone is trying to accomplish.

Maybe all the choices could be listed in a poll?

Is there anyway to "force" all the forum members to take the poll? My concern being that not everyone would read and answer it.

One thing to consider about a blogroll- when you are on a blog roll, then you have a link back to your blog for every person who is on the list. So if there are 40 on the blogroll, that is 39 other people who are linking to your blog. That helps to increase your blog's ranking in search engines, Technorati, etc.

Wow, so many things to think about and so many good ideas!

Stephanie, you've made some good points. Maybe those options could be presented on the poll too?

Karen, I'm glad you worded the poll out - what you wrote sounds good to me.

Whoops, I see that I'm basically restating what Paula said.

I do have a question about the OPML file - is it accessible to be used with blogger? Lissa asked me this earlier and I had no idea how to use it with blogger or even if one can use it with blogger. KC has already set up an OPML file although I'm unsure that it's totally current since I've added 2 or 3 more blogs since she announced that she had it...

Yikes, my brain is starting to hurt! It doesn't take much for this girl's brain to get over-heated!

And now I'm also wondering if you want to have the blogroll set up like the "Catholic Mother's Online" one?

That one is nice because even as more blogs get added to it, the size of the "window" on your blog never changes -- you just get a fun roll-bar!

LOL LOL LOL!!!I just spotted this thread and my head is spinning.

First, I just want to thank Paula (and Nissa, right??) for volunteering to take over the webring when my plate got too full to manage it. It is indeed a time consuming task, and you're wonderful for pitching in.

And Susan, your definitive list is a wonder as well! I know what a huge job that must have been! I did the same thing a couple of times (but never thought to post it), back when there were "only" 80 or so blogs among us...and it seemed like no sooner would I send someone the OMPL file as requested, than several more blogs would pop up, rendering my file out of date.

I think as blogging becomes more widespread, blogrolls and webrings are metamorphosing (metamorphosizing? what's the right word?). The "rolling" kind of blogroll Paula mentioned is indeed growing in popularity because it doesn't take over your sidebar.

Another method is to have a static page containing all your links, with a link to that page from your main page. (If you follow me.) I'm actually working on a project right that will have a page like that, with links to all the different mom-related blogrolls I can find--including Susan's, for sure! (And the Catholic Mothers Online one, and Crazy/Hip Blog Mamas, the Ambleside webring, etc.--my project is a list of lists, not the list itself, if you see what I mean.) The project is going to be a collaborative blog for tips and hacks we can all share--this is in conjunction with my "Moms Who Blog" discussion group that I mentioned the other day. The group is for discussing bloggity issue and the blog will be a public place to post the advice that grows out of the discussion, if you see what I mean.

Whichever route you decide to go with the 4Real master list/webring, please know that your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Ooooh...one of the main reasons I voted in the poll for the web ring, less clutter on the blog!
