I, too, was disappointed in the girls' book. I had an opportunity to look through it while in a small country bookstore upstate, and I am glad I did. I might have just bought it on faith if I had not flipped through to see some odd stuff about spells and the like.
The Dangerous Book for Boys is a gem...my son carried it around for weeks, clutched to his chest.
Since we just got a puppy, I found another gem in the bookstore:
The Dangerous Book for Dogs by Rex and Sparky. It's quite a funny parody, with some valuable information along with the jokes.
Edit...it might not be appropriate for all ages... Dogs will be dogs...

And I will second and third the recommendations for the Dangerous Book for Boys, et al. We have that one, the American Boy's Handy Book, the Backyard Ballistics book -- my older son loves them all. The thing I like about the Dangerous Book is that in addition to all the "slingshots and wading in the creek" stuff, there's also basic Latin grammar, basic English, history (mostly battles), literature, and more. It's like a self-contained omnibus curriculum for a 10yo boy. We love it.

I did order The Great Big Glorious Book for Girls from Amazon.de and ended up returning it, because of slightly
disappointing comments and ...well...I was just not happy with the darn book, and for 26Euros I expected much more.
It was 2 weeks ago and unfortunately I cannot remember details, but it is the first book that I returned to Amazon, which was no problem.
I hope that we will find something grand for our girls, or maybe we will just gather different books from Alice Cantrell and encourage her to write more of them. Her books on sewing and tea time are on my wish list. This summer I will come to the US and order them immediately.

I finally saw the Dangerous book at a Catholic bookstore, but was so busy trying to keep the dc from touching everything in sight, and seeing everything they were showing me, that I forgot to pick it up and purchase it.
We drove all the way home (2 hours) and I finally remembered on the way home! Ack! I can't drive all that way back to the Catholic store, and will likely breakdown and buy it at Chapters... I am so disappointed in myself, but can't wait to get it.

Thanks for the heads up on the Daring Book for Girls. My dd spotted it awhile ago and was interested. I'll show her this thread now. We have the Boys book and LOVE it!

We bought the Daring Book for Girls, and then found out afterwards about the palm reading, seance stuff for slumber parties, the "Bloody Mary" conjuring in a mirror, etc.
WHY would they put stuff like that in there?
I wound up gluing the offending pages together, and figured I could go through the rest of it with the girls together.
Someone mentioned returning the one they got from the UK -- what was wrong with it? I'm really eager to find a book as wonderful as Dangerous Book for Boys for my girls.
