Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just have to say, especially to those of you really isolated from others in similar situations, like I was (and am, I guess......though I do not feel as isolated now that I have 4RL friends all over the state, and country, who are now IRL friends), that if you feel connected with someone here, make contact, maybe they can be your phone pal.

I do not like to be tied down on the phone myself, but about once a month, I will have a long (2hour) conversation with Willa or Robynn...or Molly or.....and it helps me to get my fill of friendship of a kindred spirit. That's not even the amount of time I would need to invest in a friendship if it were local. And, you could find something to do while you chat: laundry, make dinner, clean out fridge, or the garage....

I'm stealing Chari's quote from another thread to encourage anyone who hasn't done this to give it a try. Last night I had the privilege of having my first 4Real phone conversation, and it was so wonderful just to hear her voice. Now, I am not a phone person at all (as my neglected sisters will tell you), but I was in a desperate mood and needed to hear her gentle wisdom IRL. She was every bit as warm and welcoming as I'd imagined she would be. Talking to her made her seem more real to me, and I must say that the best part was her very lovely laugh. The healing, uplifting sound of laughter is something we miss out on here, though those little yellow guys try their best.

Anyway, if you are feeling a bit lonely or in need of a new layer to a relationship you've developed here, ask a kindred spirit for a phone number and a good time to call. I think that you will find that it is well worth the time and money.

Happy Friday!

Diane, I am so glad you posted this. Over the last week I have had the privilige of talking to one of the 4Real members. And you are so right!

It did make her seem more real to me! Her voice fits her picture and her character, as it were.

It is so good to connect to someone and to discover you are not alone on this journey of homeschooling and mothering and faith.

It is hard to do this without support, and that is what this group gives me. If anyone else out there feels like that, call! It is worth it!

You never know where a phone call is going to take you...
