Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are hoping to camp in Maine this summer. Any advice? Opinions on campgrounds?

What type of camping do you do? Are you looking for a place for tent / popup camper or a full size camper. If you are looking for tent and popup I highly recommend Hermit Island - you need to make reservations now but it is quiet, rustic and awesome!!!!!!! (Unless you are looking for something with lots of entertainment.)

We will be tent camping. I will investigate Hermit Island. I am not looking for a place with lots of entertainment. It would be nice to do some ranger led programs. I just want the possibility to kayak, hike and relax. Thank you!

Oh, I loved Maine when I lived in NE!! I went to Acadia National PArk every summer for at least 2 weeks for about 10 years! We stayed at a beautiful campground called Mt. Desert campground-clean restrooms, mostly tenters, private-lots of trees, quiet, a lot of sites on the water, nice, nice owners. It is not a national park campground.
In the park I loved the hiking(pick up a book at a store somewhere and find the least traveled hikes and they are beautiful)and bike trails. You do need to do at least one "loop" of the Park Loop Road-all the tourist stuff there-some pretty views and neat things to see. Sand beach is fun and very cold--I have never really gotten in the water, even in August. Bar Harbor is nice to visit in the evening-and some nice restaurants if you need a night off from cooking        Being the first in the US to see the sunrise, from the top of Cadillac Mountain(the most eastern point in the US) is neat--we have seen some nice sunrises-not the am that dh proposed to me up there but our honeymoon sunrise wasn't bad. We started watching sunsets when we started bringing ds as a baby-they were pretty too!
Where ever you go, enjoy--I love opening the car windows after driving across the state line and smelling the fresh, pine scented air---ahhhh, I miss it!

I just reread your last post-at Acadia--there are Ranger led programs(you get a weeks schedule when you get your pass for Park Loop Road)-though I never have done them, there are kayak, bike and canoe rental places-usually in Bar Harbor.

OK - Acadia is my FAVORITE place in the world (or the world of my experience)!! It is the first place we go when we have the chance. There are great programs as mentioned as well as lots of bike trails (which you can hike on as well). If you don't travel w/ bikes you can rent. There is a book I would recommend - Discovering Acadia A Guide for Young Naturalists by Margaret Sheid. I got one for each of my girls when we went as there were some activities in it however in hind sight one would have been fine.
We haven't been to Hermit Island in a few years as we have a camper now BUT it was absolute favorite camping experience. I don't know what they have for programs but the island is small - easy to get around w/some hiking trails. It is secluded w/ I think about five beaches of sorts (one we did drive to it was still on the island). It was SO relaxing - we just hung out and played on the beach, read etc. No pressure to be here or there or "do it all". A far cry from Disney - but that was fun too.
Have fun planning!!!!!!!!!
