I recently acquired an old statue of Blessed Mary with a young girl, and the title at the bottom says "Madonna of the Kitchen". The elderly lady who gave it to me said it was in her church kitchen for years, and the statues were common during the 50's. I tried googling "Madonna of the Kitchen" with little to no luck as far as providing any background. I am very taken with the statue- does anyone know anything about them or have one?

My grandmother had one in her kitchen...not sure where it went. Maybe this website can help? I figure the author must know something about it  .

The Kitchen Madonna by Rumer Godden
and look! amazon also has this cute "most religious" kitchen madonna

My oldest daughter got me this Angel of the Kitchen figurine for Christmas.
She knows I love the Willow Tree Collection by Susan Lordi.
I've been keeping my eyes open for a Madonna of the Kitchen but I'm being very picky. I'm glad this thread was started. Thanks, Melinda!

Ebay has quite a few vintage Kitchen Madonnas. Keep looking periodically and your quest might be solved.  Sanmyro, a Japan company, had a version or two that come up online once in a while.

2 of my girlfriends (who happen to be sisters!) have one of those vintage ones in their kitchens. I think they are just too lovely! Their mothter bought it for them when they were married! I know you can find them on ebay.

I popped into the chapel gift shop this morning, and saw three kinds of kitchen madonnas! They were beautiful! One of them (my favorite) was just like Ruth's. The prices were a bit steep (all over $30) so I might just drop some hints before my b.day. One of them had a lovely prayer with it. It was too long for me to memorize on the spot, but I might try a google search - in the meantime I thought I'd share a quote I recently learned from Saint Stanislaus Kostka:
"I find a heaven in the midst of saucepans and brooms."
I put this up on my refrigerator to remember and focus on each day. I think the message is one that goes well with these lovely statues.

I really like that quotation. It certainly fits me because the kitchen is the one place that I truly feel at home and for the most part successful.
I plan to post that on my refrigerator as well. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Someone mentioned Rumer Goddens The Kitchen Madonna, we really like this book, I give it as First Communion gifts. It tells the story of making a Kitchen Madonna,for their cook just like the one from the "Old Country". I am sharing this as it may help to inspire ideas for less costly versions. Read the book and let your children make you a kitchen shrine for Mother's day!

I will try to post a picture of the one that came to me. I had no idea there were so many different versions available. But it is a lovely idea, isn't it? Comforting- Madonna of the Kitchen.

This is the one that I have in my kitchen. It was purchased at the Divine Mercy Shrine in Stockbridge. I love it, and it's right by my sink where I can see it often.

Ohhh -- I have two of these. One is a stand alone statue (but the child seems to be Jesus, not a girl?) - the sticker on that one says Japan; and the other is like a wall statue, that is in my kitchen - that one is dadted 1959. I saw one on Ebay, and just had to have it, and then got a second one sometime later.....Neither look like the ones that have been posted. I could put up a pic if I figure out how ?

I was just telling dh about this conversation...The price tag is still on the back of mine. Only $32.00!! Half of what amazon is asking...Of course, mine was purchase almost 10 years ago

I recieved one when I was married. The Blessed Mother is holding a cooking pot, a set of keys, and a broom. There was an explination that went along with it (looooong gone) and the significance of all the pieces was twofold-- the pot was to signify the wife's duty to not only feed the family physically, but also spiritually, the keys were to keep the house secure, but also to lock and guard the hearts of all in her home, and the broom was to keep the house clean and sweep away bad influences before they came in the door . . . .
Or something like that

I'm so glad you were able to post your pictures! Mine is practically identical to the one on the right, but the stars on Mary's robe are gold. Also, mine is mounted in some type of wooden holder that looks like a nook in a cathedral. Mine is also supposed to date from the 50's
