Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just an FYI for any of you who sew (or don't and would like to). JoAnn Fabrics has Moleskin & Alova Suede-look Solids fabric on sale Saturday and Sunday (12/9 & 12/10) for $1.99/yard! This is a great deal as the normal price is $6.99-9.99/yard. This fabric makes really nice heavier weight skirts. It's quite lovely. I sure hope I have this baby soon but if I don't I WILL be at JoAnn's tomorrow morning!

Thank you Michele, I had seen this in their ad and forgotten all about it. Maybe I'll pick some up even though I don't have any particular skirts in mind yet, because I have only one good winter weight skirt and a few "nursing awkward" dresses.

This sounds great for my new teenagers' birthday! My eldests (twins)13th bday is coming up...gulp..where does the time go? I want to make them something special and this seems like a good start for fashioning a feminine wardrobe!

Thanks Michele...and we are praying for you and will remember you at Holy Mass tonight!

God Love you!

Ok, since we've got a lead on the material, how about a lead on a pattern recommendation?

I have been learning how to sew and would love to do a skirt at $1.99 a yard!

Michele, you'd be proud of me...I recently completed a set of Christmas napkins...I can now sew straight seams! I have a picture on my blog if you want to check it out! LOL!

Prayers for a safe and fast delivery! So exciting!

I'm with Maria. I'd like suggestions for the types of patterns that would work with this fabric. Also, if you know you want to make a skirt, but don't have a pattern picked out yet, how much fabric do you buy to be sure to have enough for a skirt?

It depends on how full you want the skirt but I would buy a minimmum of 2 1/2 yards for a skirt.

Patterns suggestions: Well if you are going to JoAnn's anyway McCall's & Butterick patterns are $1.99 and Vogue are $3.99

here's some I like:

B4025

B4858

B4859 (I already have this one AND a moleskin I bought months ago to make it.)

Also the panel skirt we've talked about before are great for moleskins.

Anyway, think of me tomorrow when you are buying fabric - because I am quite sure I'm not going to make it. Labor is definitely on. Contractions are getting stronger and are of the kind where, well, you just know. And they are regular (about 5 min apart at this point) so I think I'm going to be having a baby tonight.

Back to Michele's original topic here:
I went to Joann's this weekend and bought moleskin fabric and patterns to make 4 skirts (2 for me and one each for my 10yo and 12yo dd). My total was only $30 for all that! I'm going to wrap up the fabric and pattern for the girls as an extra Christmas gift. I couldn't find a very good pattern for a long rather straight skirt in the girls section, so I got a pattern that comes in size 4. I hope I can make that fit them. They have been asking for me to teach them to sew for quite awhile now, so the skirts will be a joint project.

Thanks for the heads up on the fabric and pattern sale, Michele.

Great deal Irene! I'm sure you can make the pattern work. Fittings at those ages with a straight skirt really shouldn't be difficult. I can't wait to see them!
