Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Moms,

What ethnicity/nationality/heritage are you? Your husbands?

I am about 1/4 Irish, 1/4 English, 1/4 German, 1/4 Belgian.

Brendan is 1/2 Irish, 1/2 Mutt.

Edited to add: Brendan is also a little bit (1/16 or 1/32, I can't remember now) Cherokee Indian!

Celtic, both of us...Irish, Scottish, Welsh. I suppose there's a bit of Anglo-Saxon mixed in, and my grandmother was half Jewish (discovered through genetic testing).

Is this bugging?

Curiosity, I guess. Inquisitiveness? Wanting the intimacy that the computer can't provide?

I'm a thinker, a searcher. I like to know people. I like to hear from my other comrades-in-arms, what they are going through, what their thoughts are, what their experiences have been, what they come from.....it helps me see myself as part of the larger whole. (???)

My heart dilates from all of the 4RealLearning Posts I read....I think I grow from the learning and considering....and it is fun, at least for me, to get to know everyone in different ways.

My dh's family from his father side came from Alsacia. I am not sure from his mother side.

I am half Sicilian-Italian and half Florida cracker(basically, mutt).
My husband is pure Cuban with his ancestry being Basque/Spanish (fair-haired, blue-eyed Cubans).
We tease our kids that they are Cuban crackers.

People think I'm Hispanic. I often have stangers start talking to me in Spanish.

My DH...his dad is Black.
His mom is 1/2 Mexican & 1/2 Native American (don't know which...I've never asked    )

I enjoy your questions, Nina. It's fun to get to know more about everyone.

I'm 100% Irish, with my father born and raised there.
My dh, on the other hand, is a bit of a mutt with an Italian last name. He's only 1/4 Italian, with I don't know what else. I do know his mother's family is "American" going back to the Revolution, so I guess maybe they're English?

I'm 100% Irish as well, with my mom from Ireland and my dad 1st generation, unless of course you want to count my father's family being Normans and coming to conquer but being charmed instead, by the Irish, oh way back in the 1100s.

My dh is a bit Irish, a bit German, a bit American Indian, Norwegian, French....a mutt!

My kiddos have just been talking about this and they announced proudly to Daddy that they are more than 1/2 Irish by virtue of the fact that Mommy is all and Daddy is a bit. Daddy had a chuckle. He's always been amused at my curious ethnic pride.

Kathleen

Fun thread!

I am the daughter of 1st generation parents. My mom's parents were French-Canadian and a little bit of Huron Indian. My dad's parents were Italian (Sicily and Naples).

So...I am 1/2 Italian, almost 1/2 French Canadian, and a tiny bit of Huron.

Husband: 1/2 German and 1/2 Scot-Irish

Kids: Mutts (or as my mom says,"cosmopotlitan" )

I'm 1/2 Canadian French, 1/4 Polish, 1/8 German, 1/8 Hungarian.

My dh is English, Scottish, Danish and Hungarian. (I think)

So I guess our kids are American.

Michaela...my dc are almost 1/2 Black + a litte Cherokee and Choctaw and almost 1/2 Irish; people have always mistaken my 2 oldest dc for Hispanic and talked to them in Spanish, lol. They didn't know a word of it but they learned how to say "I don't speak Spanish."

Nina, back to your question. I'm 3/4 Irish and 1/4 German, dh is a descendant of West African slaves and 2 Native American great, great grandparents, one Cherokee, one Choctaw.

I am 3/4 Irish 1/4 Scandinavian.

Dh is 1/4 Irish 3/4 Mexican. His grandfather immegrated to Mexico from Ireland as a young man.

My dh moved here when he was 5.

Do any of you do geneology? My aunt has traveled all over the world doing family research. My mother said she has literally traced our history back to Adam & Eve. She can tell you who married, what children they had, etc. all the way back. It is pretty amazing.

I have not looked at all her research but I do know we are somehow related to George Bush and Princess Diana

Blessings,
Krisann
