Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks Lissa for bringing this to our attention. How frustrating!

I am not a big Dr. Phil fan anyway but this is just wrong. It's so dishonest.

It looks like this episode has been cancelled. I had never seen the show before, but it surely sounds like he wasn't honest.

It looks like the homeschooling episode will be airing this Friday, Nov. 24.

A day when all the children are home from school and most of the parents are home from work. That can't be good.

Okay, I watched the show. It was obvious that they took what the mom of the radical unschooling family said and "cut and pasted" to change the meaning of what she was saying to put them in the worst possible light.

The person that they had to represent "normal" homeschooling had very young children and was really still in the investigating stage and her husband completely disagreed with her decision to homeschool.

But the part that REALLY bothered me was that Dr. Phil said at least twice that it was a "proven fact" that once children are in middle school and high school (usually grade 7 and up) these children are "socially backwards" and their "social development has been retarded". (I didn't tape it and the quotes might not be exactly right, but that is what I remember him saying and it is at least close.) So where is this study that "proves" this. I really wish they would have had a teen that was being homeschool that was eloquent (based on my experience it isn't that hard to find one of these and could express why they like being homeschooled. Instead, they had a girl that was homeschooled and is now in her own words a social misfit who is angry that she missed the football games and the prom.

I didn't understand her at all. She's 26 years old and says she feels like a social outcast because she can't join in conversations with her friends when they talk about high school, prom, etc.. Who talks about proms and high school when you're 26?

The entire show was terrible. The slant was horribly obvious, although I noticed that Dr. Phil occasionally threw in a positive comment in attempt to appear "balanced".

The irony of all of this is, "How were people educated before the public school system?"

Geez.

I sent the following message to Dr. Phil. I will let you know if I get a response.

I watched the homeschooling show on Friday and noticed that Dr. Phil twice said that it is a proven fact that children that are homeschooled in middle school and in high school are social behind children that are in public school. Could you please forward that study to me or provide me with the information of where I can find that study as I would very much like to see the details of this study. Thank you.

There are almost 11,000 votes so far and 75% prefer homeschooling over private, public or unschooling. Patty, if you can remember who the sponsors were, forward your concerns to them too. They care a lot more about your opinion than Dr. Phil.

I DVR'd it if anyone wants me to check the sponsors.

The show really frustrated me!
