We had a glider/rocker that was given to us a gift when my oldest (11) was born. Needless to say, it has been retired after rocking 5 babies. 
I saw on Elizabeth's blog, that she has a lovely rocking chair and ottoman (can you share where you go it, Elizabeth?).
Does anyone have any recommendations for rocking chairs/gliders--where to purchase, styles, etc.?

My sister sent it to me last week. It's from Babies R Us. I've never had a rocking chair that fit me, so I'm pretty excited about this one.

My advice:
Find a chair you like. Any chair. It doesn't need to rock. Just make sure it's comfy, and upholstered, and preferably has a slipcover for easy washing.
Then call Leggett and Platt. That's the company that provides the glider mechanisms for Crate and Barrel's glider/rockers. You can order from them the glider mechanism for around $35.00 and attach it to the bottom of any upholstered chair in about twenty minutes with minimal effort (you'll need a drill and a smallish piece of hardwood). This is what we did in our nursery and we have a fabulous upholstered glider and ottoman that would have cost around $1600 retail, but since we bought the chair and ottoman on clearance and added the glider ourselves, it was $600 for the set.

Oh, I am so envious! I always wanted a glider as they are so much easier to move, but alas! While rocking in a friends glider I discovered I get motion sickness in them!

I bought one from Baby Co, a Mama glider chair when I was pregnant with little Michael, it has been the favourite chair in the house! I laboured with Michael in it up until the last 12 minutes and breastfed, I school in it, sitting in it now!  In otherwords, I highly recommend it.
Ours is very strong, sturdy and wide (wider than the standard size) I only wish I had bought one 12 years ago.
Whilst visiting your blog Elizabeth, I enjoyed everything else! Always such an inspiring read.

Thank you! That sounds like a wonderful idea! I'm just excited to have a new rocking chair in our future...a rocking chair is a true fixture in our home.

This is a fabulous piece of advice.
When I first had my son, we had a family heirloom rocking chair that we reupholstered. It was beautiful, but not comfortable when I spending all those wee hours rocking my son. Wooden arms just aren't right for nursing and cuddling.
So, for my first Mother's Day dh gave me Dream Rocker and Ottoman. We have very few brand new items of furniture in our house -- it's mostly family hand-me-downs. But this was a gift that just keeps on giving. The chair is so comfortable, the nights I fell asleep holding my little one I slept well. It's now our reading and snuggling chair.
I have two regrets. One is that I wish I got a glider, as the rocker does move and poke holes in the wall if I'm not careful. But I still love it. I want it to last, so I cover it with a sheet for our daily use, but it does have a slipcover. I'm just being extra cautious.
Second regret: if I have another child I don't know how ds #1 will handle having it out of his room. I might have to get a another chair for the next baby.
