I've been reading all the threads on planners. I have fooled around with the Franklin Covey one for years but I can't seem to get it to work for me. I still don't use it daily. I'm thinking maybe I just have the wrong one. Covey used to make a "Simplicity" model that worked well for SAHM's but it was discontinued awhile ago and all the options now feel like they are geared too much for those in the business world.
Do you actually include all your lesson plans, meal plans, as well as daily plans in your planner? Does it live on your kitchen counter or in your purse/diaper bag? If you use Michele's (which looks so beautiful!) do you find the Catholic extras remind you to pray your rosary or read the daily readings? Have you tagged "looking at your planner" to a particular time of the morning or night so you remember to stay focused on your daily goals?
I'd really like to use mine more than as an oversized address book this year. I'm all ears...

I actually talked to Sean Covey about that a couple of years ago. He wanted permission to print a column I wrote and while I had him on the phone I told him how much I missed "simplicity" and how much more appropriate it was for moms at home. It was back last year. I haven't looked this year because I have Michele's planner.

No kidding! I always shopped at a store rather than online, but last year we were moving across country and so I never made my January trek to the store. I must have missed it. Well anyway, I'm more interested in either Michele's or the Momagenda one, now.

i wish i'd seen the momagenda yesterday. i just ordered myself a new binder at franklin -- on sale! -- and i'm going back to paper after digital. i wished they had a nice pink colored one like momA's, but at least mine has pink piping and a shoulder strap LOL -- i'm excited! i didn't order the forms this time and got the software instead so i can make my own forms and add anything else i want like project tabs for unit studies, lesson plans, meditations, grocery lists/menus, etc.
oh and to answer your question -- i carry my planner with me all the time (one of my frustrations with the Palm because it just felt so cold, and was easy to lose/misplace because of the size) -- i switched to a Moleskine in January because of this. but i missed the catch-all abilities of my old Franklin binder (a compact, with a shoulder strap) -- it was a wallet+binder, and i attached my keyring to it (when I was doing that i never lost my keys!) -- i'm hoping the new binder will hold my cell phone too, that way i'm good to go. my Moleskine, and soon the planner, goes everywhere -- kitchen counter, bedroom, car, even the bathroom!, etc. i take it with me everywhere i go because i'm always writing things down, or looking at my checklist, etc. whenever i don't have it i feel kinda lost and don't know what i'm supposed to do next. i think it really helps to develop a relationship with a planner that you love, so it becomes your constant companion/lifeline  .

I've been jumping around for years trying to be more efficient as well. I used to use a 5x8 binder from DayRunner and had my address book, calendar, etc. in it. i'd set up categories from the book Confessions of an Organized Housewife and it was pretty useful. But, I was always getting pieces of 8.5 x 11 paper here and there, and they would have to be folded and stuffed into it - not very efficient.
So a couple years ago I switched to a large size binder I bought at Walmart that zips up, and I bought Michele's 3-hole punched 8.5 x 11 size planner to go in it. I like all the stuff Michele has in it, and I also had my address book (tabbed dividers, etc.) in it. BUT, I found that it's just too big and heavy to be schlepped around everywhere. I'd put it in my bag to take to work, but never remember to pull it out when home b/c of it's size and bulk.
At home we use the parish calendar on my bulletin board and I keep my Palm Pilot in my purse, so I've just been using the two of them and trying to keep them synced 
I don't use a planner for lesson plans; I've found I do most of that in the computer, or in a separate binder I keep with booklists, attendance pages, etc.
I do want to order Michele's planner again this year but am thinking about getting the smaller spiral bound one this time and going back to the basics.

Here are the Simplicity planner pages. I used them one year and they were good. This year I bought daily pages from Franklin Covey thinking that I would keep daily records of what "schooling" I did. It never happened. I much prefer weekly pages and keeping homeschooling paperwork separate from household management. I like the Classic size. My binder is also my wallet/purse. All my credit cards, insurance cards, money, etc. are in it. I take it everywhere.
Does anyone know if the Catholic Mother's planner has tabs on the monthly pages? I used it one year and I would have loved it, if it had those tabs.

Yes, it comes with 12 printed months tabs and 3 blanks. They are stick on but permanent and they are plastic so they don't tear. Tabbed dividers already integrated into the planner are still cost prohibitive at this point, PLUS some people have told me they don't like tabs so this way they can use them if they want to.

I just got my order of Michele's planner today. After a little scare from the mailman    who crushed the package into the box, I was thrilled and relieved to see that it was undamaged and I am happily planning on going through it more tonight...
