Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are having a houseful, and lots of young children. Playtime will be mostly outside with plenty of water. We need to serve a grab-and-go lunch that can be prepared ahead of time, and then some kind of BBQ for dinner. I'm not feeling very inspired, and was just wondering what is on the menu at your homes?

Also, has anyone tried corn on the cob cooked on the BBQ? What's the trick? I really like the idea of not firing up the range.
Thanks!

I don't have any idea of what to cook on the 4th. Goodness, I just decided what was for dinner tonight! So, I'm sorry I'm no help there.

I have done corn on the grill. I leave all the husks on, and just cook it on med heat (gas grill) for around 20-30 minutes. Some people wrap their de-husked corn in aluminum foil before cooking, but I'd rather let everyone do the work for themselves

Shawna, I have a post up at my food blog called Yankee Doodle Dinner. In the post (an old food article I wrote) are instructions for corn on the grill.

Marty does this all of the time........we will have to ask him. I think he chops off both ends and cooks them in the shucks......is that what you call them?

Anyway, looking forward to being one of the families with NOT so little kids

Ya Chari, ask Marty for me! Lisa, I have seen corn wrapped in foil on the grill before, but like you, I thought it seemed a little labor-intensive. I never thought to leave the husks on! Dawn, thank you for that great article! The 4th has become my favorite holiday, I think. I'm sure its because it falls in the heart of the summer. Your blog really conveyed the festive feeling this time of year brings!

We just discovered and love corn on the grill. My dh puts a little olive oil on the outside of the husks (you can remove a few of the outer leaves), then grills turning every so often for about 8-10 minutes. The husks and silks come off easily then and the taste is delicious! I can't believe I used to boil my corn.
