My mind is a cluttered mess! It's been this way for a while and doesn't seem to want to clean up. I'm getting stuff done but it takes way more effort than it should. I also have many things going at once because I can't concentrate on finishing before moving to the next project. I also can't seem to communicate clearly. Even my dreams are a mess.

I need to sort this out and clear my mind while on break!

I will be working on more exercise and cleaning up my diet a little. I take vitamin supplements but I am not consistent in remembering. I've been very careful with our schedule to make sure we are not over booked and have days for resting. (Last week was over booked and I'm still trying to recover from that.) I also need to work on prayer.

I have many books sitting around that need to be read but I don't know where to start. I usually think if I have a problem there is probably a book that can help. Any good reading suggestions? Just something to help me focus that provides encouragement and insight especially for the homeschooling mom?

I've been locking myself in the bedroom to work on projects and I usually get lost in my thoughts (or trying to sort them out) and don't accomplish anything.

Any suggestions to find some peace?

I find reading a really good book is as good as a vacation. I mean something totally fun (or exciting) and doesn't once tell you how you can better clean your house. If I'm feeling frazzled, young adult books are an easier to read genre and there's a lot of them that are fun.

But really I read a fun book so that I'm caught up in the story and my mind really gets a break from fretting about all the stuff that needs to get done but I can't get done for one reason or another. I don't need help to do the things. I need time off.

If I need encouragement I like a fun book like Please Don't Drink the Holy Water because it makes me feel ok that things aren't perfect AND it makes me laugh.

If I need a spiritual boost, I like conversion stories like Surprised by the Truth because it gets down to the essentials of why I'm Catholic. And it's nice to see other people making that choice. It reinforces my choice as a good thing. And because they're personal stories they have an emotional element that tells my gut that it's a good thing. It's when I'm not feeling weak that I like to explore more about my faith and more intellectual pursuits.

And if you want helpful suggestions for dealing with practical matters when you feel scattered, I liked the book ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life not because I'm ADD but I do have tendencies that way, but because it explores a bit of ways that we might be able to change how we do things to better fit. Like it talks about if you need to be able to see things to remember them, then a file drawer isn't a good place to put your bills. A bulletin board or a clear drawer might work better because you could see that something was there.
