Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dd has been saving her money for an iPad. Now she has discovered the Kindle Fire and notices that while it's less than 1/2 the price of the iPad, it claims to do the same things. Is this true? Anyone have experience? I don't want her to settle for a Kindle Fire and then be disappointed. (I have to admit, while the iPad seemed too expensive for me to get one for myself, I could actually go for a Kindle Fire ... if indeed it is as good as it claims to be!)

Don't have advice on the difference, but love to hear about them. I'm really wishing for a Kindle Fire too

I don't own either, but there have been numerous complaints about the Fire reported in the news. For example, here.

Amazon did say it was going to release an over-the-air update to fix some of the problems. Maybe someone with before and after experience will be able to help.

My techie dh would say hold out for the iPad. We are.

I hope someone with more experience answers, to make your decision easier.

We received two Kindle Fires for Christmas. My husband loves watching YouTube videos on his...no complaints about upload time, playback time, etc. Everything seems to work fine via our wireless router.

I'd rate the touch screen sensitivity as "medium" compared to my smartphone and other touchscreen items I have used.

Downloading of Kindle editions of books is lightning-fast. In fact, it's way too easy to buy books via the Kindle Fire - you can buy things by accident if you accidentally touch the wrong part of the screen (although you can cancel the purchase, which I have also done).

The on/off button is in a place that might seem odd to smartphone users, but I've never shut the Fire off by mistake...you really have to press on the on/off button to make it work, so it's not like, say, tapping the touch screen by mistake.

We have not tried to use many apps so far, so I hope other users can chime in with their experiences.

Hey Becky, I watched a video on youtube that discussed the differences from a homeschooling family's perspective. I'm running out the door but think it might be in this thread.

We still haven't purchased either .

Love,
