Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yesterday was shearing day on the farm. Go here for a before & after.

We, well they, sheared 30 alpacas yesterday. I was holding baby, so we helped lead animals to & from.

We had great weather, good food and lots of fun! The birds will enjoy all the scrap fleece to make nice soft nests.

Ok, try
this for larger pictures. Just click on the image to enlarge.

Jenny,

This is SOOO cool! What will you do with the fleece (says the woman who LOVES fiber and real wool is a real treat!) and alpaca! How cool is that?! I'm so jealous.

Jenny,

I agree! Way cool. Brought back memeories of my 4-H sheep raising days.
I love fibers too, but am more of a wannabe . Says the woman with too many unfinished knitting projects and the lap loom sitting unused the past 8 years .
The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival is the first weekend in May, that is one neat event!

Speaking of Fiber Festivals, we had a really nice time at the Virginia Fall Fiber Festival last year.

While I was looking up that website, I found this one that lists "excellent fiber festivals" around the country.

Oh, and here's the link for The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival that Mary Chris mentioned. Looks GREAT!

We spent Earth Day at a Sheepshearing Festival! I posted about it at my blog (of course ). Now I'm all jazzed about wool and yarn and knitting ... guess I'd better check out Mary G.'s blog!

We sheared last Thursday also.
The sheep are still adjusting. They do not stay together as a flock as well. One or 2 of the four will get on the wrong side of the barn and call to the others pitifully.
Much to my dh's chagrin I kept 3 of the 4 fleeces--they are beautiful.(long wool with some fineness--Dark Romney,White Lincoln, and White Blue Faced Leichester (sp?) crossed with Cotswold) Moira is a Karakul whick is very corse--2 years ago I did have her wool put into a large bat for felting or quilting.
Now to start spinning the fleece from 2 years ago!
Of coarse after the early spring chores, I only want bed after dinner.
