Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My introverted personality has gotten in the way of asking for an All Saints party correctly the first time around.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked my hubby to talk to Father about it. Mainly joking because DH is just as shy as I am, if not more. Well, my 10yo son decided to take it upon himself and asked Father about having an All Saints party on Halloween (happens to fall on Sunday this year) after he had served at the altar with Father.

A couple of other kids overheard and were very excited. Father said he'd have to talk to the parish secretary to see if the calender is open. Oh, and he said the youth group would need to help with it.

I heard about all of this later.

Sunday, Father told me it's a no go because the 11/12th graders meet and have something planned.

It happened so fast (5 minutes before Mass was going to start -- we were running late so my mind was on overdrive) that I just smiled, said ok, and shrunk away.

Soooo, after thinking about it a little bit, why does it HAVE to be on the 31st? Maybe I should resubmit the idea, write up ideas (games) add pictures...just a proposal on paper kind of deal.

My heart races just thinking that Father might get upset that it's being asked about again (not that I have ever heard him upset or mean or anything negative!!!)

All that background to ask you....

Let it be or try again....having it come from me instead of a child?

Ask again.

This isn't a big deal, and there's no hard and fast rule that says you need to have an All Saints Party on any specific day. We host a big All Saints Party at our house every year - each child dresses up as a saint and gives a short playet or description of his/her choice (always the most obscure saints are chosen in an attempt to stump the audience), we have snacks, some simple games for the littles (pin the crown on Our Lady, fishing for sainthood, race to the Kingdom), and everyone brings a snack to share. Last year we had over 100 people (mostly children) here! It was wonderful! 2 priests came which made the day even more wonderful!

Why not ask Father if you can have the party some time on Monday, which is All Saints Day this year? And if Monday doesn't work out, be armed with a backup day! This is such a wonderful day to celebrate the richness of our faith with other families! You can do this Michaela!! Take a deep breath...smile...and ask away!

Sorry Michaela to not respond to your original question. I guess I was in shock to think of hosting 100 people so I replied to Jen first!

For whatever it's worth though, our homeschool All Saints party has always fallen on a day other than Oct 31 b/c of scheduling at our very large parish. This year it will fall on Friday, Oct 29.

Good luck!
