Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Laura. ( I think It goes to you)
I have been off line here for a while so am unsure about things.

I am due to do the March Loveliness fair ~ children/picture books and have a few... well a lot of questions.

How do I go about starting this?
Is it due to be 'aired' at the start or the end of the month?
Do I 'advertise' on my blog asking for people to contribute?
Do they submit before March or during?
Do the posts get published prior to the fair or as it is airing?

Sorry to know so little about this. I hope you are patient with me
God Bless

hi there,

sorry for the late reply - this never came up on "new messages" so i didn't see it!

i can try to answer your questions - but there are actually people here who are much more informed than i am wrt doing these.

also - i think that while we all like the idea of the loveliness fairs, the participation has not been as good as had been hoped.

i would suggest putting out a post calling for "submissions" to your chosen topic. give a deadline for posts to be submitted - really, this can be totally up to you when it is, in my opinion. people will hopefully respond to your post with links to their blog posts on the topic. then, you write a post talking about your topic and compiling the submissions you have received.

does that help at all?

other ladies who would like to jump in with a more detailed explanation are certainly welcome to do so!

i'll check back later. i'm out of time.

Hi Gae! Okay, I'm back and ready to tackle your questions. I haven't been heavily involved in Loveliness Fairs in the past, but I have read them for a long time. The January Fair on my blog went really well- I did request a few submissions from more "prolific" bloggers (Leila from Like Mother, Like Daughter, for example), just to make sure that there would be a good selection of reading material. I was really happy with how it all turned out! And it got a LOT of traffic, so I think it was helpful.

How do I go about starting this?
You announce your Loveliness Fair here and on your blog, telling everyone when the deadline is for submissions.

Is it due to be 'aired' at the start or the end of the month?
Your decision. I picked a date that worked for me- I knew I'd have the most computer time on that particular day/weekend, so I chose it. LF dates used to be decided at the beginning of the year, but they've become a lot more "loose" since Elizabeth Foss and Dawn Hanigan stopped organizing them. :) So really- pick whenever works best for you. Just choose the Fair date, and then tell everyone that submissions are due 1-2 days before that.

Do I 'advertise' on my blog asking for people to contribute?
Yup! Just post something that tells people what kind of posts you are looking for. Then give them a date to submit posts by, and give them your email address so that they can send you the link.

Do they submit before March or during?
They'll submit posts by whatever date you've set. So you can say, for example, "posts due by March 15th", and I bet you'll get 90% of your submissions between the 12th and the 15th. In order to keep things manageable and not get confused or overwhelmed, I started a blog post and saved it as a draft. Everytime I received a contribution, I immediately wrote up a little blurb about it and linked it on my post, and saved the draft. That way, I wasn't scrambling to find all the links at the last minute.

Do the posts get published prior to the fair or as it is airing?
In order for people to send you links, they need to publish the posts on their own blogs. This is why you'll get most/all of the submissions at the last minute. If I write a post for the fair, then I need to publish it on my blog in order to send you the link. Not a big deal, really.

Any other questions, Gae? I'm happy to answer them and I will be able to get on here more reliably now that we are all moved out of our house. :) I hope this helped, but really- feel free to ask more if you have them!

And count me in for a submission. I already have one brewing in my mind.
