Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Tongiht we are going to the Leukemia Ball in Wash DC, Carter was asked to be a face of the cause. Jim and I are just going to escort him. He'll have a group of tables he will walk around to and thank.

I didn't get my nails done, am doing my own hair, wearing the same dress as two years ago...never made it out to get some Spanx and I'm not sure I have any make-up.

I am reminding myself that this is so not about me. This is so out of my comfort zone....hanging out with the rich and beautiful.

Luckily, Carter looks adorable in his tux and he does a great job speaking to people. We will just walk behind him and say thanks....oh did I mention my dh got a skin cancer removed from his temple and is wearing a big ol' bandage.

If you can spare a prayer.......

Mary Chris,

You forgot the best part of being beautiful as a Mom...your mother's smile.

I will pray for you to have peace, be relaxed and enjoy the evening. Prayers for your husband too!

Go Carter!!! Hope he has a blast doing the "meet and greet"!

God bless,

Marybeth

Oh Mary Chris...I always feel like that when it is time to get ready to go somewhere special...know that a relaxed, joyful you is the most, beautiful confident you.
Can you stop on the way out and buy a new pretty lipstick that'll make you feel pretty? Rub some olive oil on your nails and cuticles...they'll be shiny and soft for the evening...and run to the pharmacy, pick up a pair of control top hose, cut them off at the calf...voila, one night only Spanx substitute!
And smile....it's gonna be great!

Oh, Mary Chris....you'll be gorgeous!!

Makeup/hair/nail issues
Put on pretty smelling lotion...nails done. The more messed up your hair looks, the trendier you are...I don't see how you can go wrong there! Wear lots of pretty lip gloss, and smile a lot - that's really all you need for the makeup anyway!!!

No spanx
Just keep reminding yourself to stand up straight with your shoulders back and you'll look like you lost 10 pounds right there!

Poor Jim...but I'm so happy he'll be right by your side tonight!

Just keep smiling, Mary Chris...and come home and prop up your bare feet on the couch and you and Jim have a big glass of wine and toast Carter!

Sending lots of prayers for you tonight! I bet you'll be gorgeous!!! Wish we could have pics!

Forgot to say... to you! I always get frantic getting ready for these kind of nights as well...but it is kind of fun to slip into something girly and get all dolled up!

I'll be praying here...enjoy the evening!

Mary Chris, you will be just fine. Besides, anyone who meets you for more than about ten seconds will see what a truly beautiful person you are, inside and out.

I understand your nervous feelings - I had to go to many Mrs. Commanding Officer events and had butterflies every time - but you have a gift for putting people at ease that will stand you in good stead tonight.

Sending a prayer your way...

Awwwwwwwwwww, you will be wearing your love for your family, and your countenance will be like the Proverbs 31 woman. God will be pleased. We don't really *want* to fit in with Hollywood or DC socialites anyway...

Hugs to you!

Thank you all for your sweet replies to my pity party! You really are to kind to me.

The evening was lovely! We all had a great time. I did actually have some Bare Minerals make up, and dd helped me straighten, then curl my hair.

Carter did a wonderful job walking around to the tables, and everyone was so sweet to him. The event raised 3 million dollars for the Society, which just gives me chills. It was interesting to me to speak with the parents of children recently off treatment to hear how less invasive the new protocols are.

If I can figure out how to make one of the pictures small enough to upload, I'll post it later. You all know how technology impaired I am

Oh, that's so good MC. I didn't "join" the pity party till Sunday morning so couldn't post good wishes ... I felt similar to you though as dh and I went to the Symphony at the Kennedy Center on Saturday and I really didn't have anything that I considered appropriate ... but then I noticed that folks wore the spectrum -- from furs to jeans/t-shirt that I didn't worry and just enjoyed the performance!

Sounds like you were able to do the same. (BTW, don't you love it when your daughters get old enough to do your hair and it's not just full of clips or funny rubber bands !)
