Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love hearing others' resolutions...It really helps to put mine in perspective. Sometimes I just don't think about it in order to avoid heaping guilt upon myself for not having enough resolve.

Also, is there anything you guys do either individually or as a family to start off the New Year?

I always pray for a Scripture verse for the year. It's amazing how it always seems to apply so well to our lives for that year. The year that we began our official move to the Catholic Church, my verse was, "Be not Afraid" That was before I read anything by JPII. I thought that was pretty cool.

Instead of resolutions that I break and then feel guilty about, I list my goals. I have spiritual, personal, family, couple, financial and home goals. This year I will add school goals, too. Usually I sit down on New year's Day and list them. Some years a lot gets accomplished, some years not so much.

Like JodieLyn, I'm all about schedules right now.

I'm seriously reevaluating my outside commitments and our learning schedule.

The things which will guide me and my children are...

more thoughtful prayer time into our day, making the day holy.

morning time.

looking at the talents God has given and of which we are answerable to Him and making sure there is time each week to focus on these talents.

I mentioned in another thread, but mine is to try harder to incorporate more of the Liturgical Year into our family's rhythms and to try to get to daily mass at least once a month, if not weekly. I pray every year and ask God to highlight something and that's what I think He wants of me this year. Ever since September He seems to be pointing out to me that I invest too much time and effort into academic schedules and leave other stuff out that is sometimes more important...

I received The Mother's Rule of Life as a Christmas gift! I'm so excited to read it as I have been wanting this book for a while.

I am striving for more rhythm here as well. We are in a new house with a new "farm" lifestyle. There has been a lot of adjusting. One of my New Year's goals is to become "ruthlessly simple" in what I choose to commit to that is not directly related to keeping my hearth and home, teaching my children, and loving my husband.

Oh, and I am determined to lose some weight...along with my IRL friend who is on this board! It has become imperative..I'm the heaviest I've ever been not-pregnant, and I have almost nothing to wear. I feel miserable and think about it constantly. Time to drop a few lbs.

That's mine...who's next??

This year is the first time in a while I'll be making a resolution. I need to start taking better care of my health. I have been putting off a few things for far too long. I am planning to schedule appointments for a complete physical, blood work, mammogram, allergist, and possibly a nutritionist if I need some help with dealing with my allergies. I'm hoping by late January/early February to be through with this. Then I will try and follow any recommendations I receive from the doctors.

Got this in my inbox today and thought it was pretty funny:

actually might look like one month later)
By Cheryl A. Moeller

January 1st: "We will have physical education every single day in 2009, for at least one hour."

January 1st: "I will learn to sleep standing up.

February 1st: "I won't fall asleep behind the wheel."

January 1st: "I will find at least one pair of matching socks."

February 1st: "Finding one pair of matching socks is statistically identical to being hit with a meteor while vacationing in Florida."

February 1st: "I will go from eight to seven email addresses."

January 1st: I will make a time for my own personal reading each day in 2009.

To funny Stef.

My goal this year is, to steal a phrase, Do Hard Things. I have been hit with hard things in the past, but none of the circumstances were chosen by me. While the situations were hard, they weren't as horrible as they could have been. Now I have to chose to do the hard thing...follow through with a schedule, pay down our debt and exercise. I know I will only fail if I try to do to much so I am still working on figuring out the baby steps to put these goals into action.

Great question DeAnn.

I'm gently polishing my plans:

Uppermost:
(1) focus on the needs of my husband and our relationship
(2) making the day holy using the New Saint Joseph People's Prayer Book and remembering the Seven Sacred Pauses in my day using various spiritual reading
(3) morning time (mentioned above) for hsing consistancy
(4) use my talents daily for the glory of God

Well, I've been thinking about Cay's "what's your word" question, and I think mine is going to be plan. So I've made a plan for decluttering before we move, and a workout plan, and I'm sending in an enrollment application today so that I can have more guidance with my homeschool plan.

My New Year's Resolution is "stick to the plan."

Plan better and be more consistent, with school life and prayer life.
