Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was lying down resting, nursing the baby and saying my rosary with the Mark Forrest cd this afternoon - and I was amused at the "orchestra" (cacaphony?) of afternoon sounds in the background - my rosary cd on, my three year old listening to Jim Weiss's Robinhood on cd in the boys' bedroom, one of my 8yo ds playing the piano downstairs, my daughter listening to her Latina Christiana drill on cd downstairs. Nobody was bothered by anyone else's sounds - and the baby was sleeping peaceful through it all!!!

Loud would have to be our noise as well!!

Everyone at the present time practices their instruments after chores- that would be an Irish flute, a violin, and the piano at once (often in the same room ). I have to think about staggering them.....

What a great question! You have really made me pause and listen.

My house is filled with the sounds of distant noise! I love the peaceful feeling that quiet gives my family and from very early on have worked with my children to give our house a sense of calm. I have pretty firmly established boundaries of adult space and kid space and "never the twain shall meet," as it were.

However, there are definitely pockets of sound being made all over the place. In one corner, you may hear the sounds of beginning piano or classical piano. The sounds of U2 often comes piping out of the room of the teenagers. From the basement a lot of giggles and battlecries will rise where the little ones are playing with the dress up clothes and frequently there is humming or whistling going on as the children accompany their play with theme music!

As in any house, lest I lead you to think otherwise, there is the occasional yelling, whimpering and whining that is typical when so many people try and cooperate in one space, but the happy sounds far outweigh the stressful, for which I am grateful. For nearly 16 years our house has been blessed with the joyful noise of babies laughing as they are being tickled or thrown in the air.

The sounds of a homeschooling house are quite "musical," aren't they. We all have different tastes and different "instruments" to work with: some of us have the sounds of Mozart, some Bach-like fugues, some of us have Joplin rags and some a modern rock concert!

I imagine someday we will all have the "sound of silence" and we will pine for the music of our "youth!"

It really depends on the time of day. Right now I hear the littles building/destroying wooden block towers, the dog barking in the back yard, the baby breathing deeply asleep on my chest, the violin being practiced upstairs, girls giggling in the basement. There is a constant ebb and flow of noise in our home.

This is so funny!
At the moment, I can hear 1) the washing machine 2) Parkening plays Bach 3) my ds singing to himself 4) and rummaging through legos 4) heater vents blowing...

It's morning....

We also have piano practice, harp or guitar being played, dishes clanging, reading aloud, occasional fighting, and refrigerator noise!

Right now, quiet! Can you believe it? My three oldest aren't here, my two youngest are sleeping. The 4 yr old is upstairs playing dollhouse and my dds, 8 and 6, are behind me playing Age of Mythology and discussing strategy in hushed tones. Even the dogs are quiet, except for their snoring.

Time to put my feet up and close my eyes before the moment is lost.

I will have to give an update later to tell you how my house usually sounds. Not for the faint of heart.
