This stage of life drives me crazy! I am so ready to be out of maternity clothes, but nothing fits.  I like to wear nursing tops but don't have any long enough to cover the maternity panel on my jeans. My maternity pants won't even stay up very well, but I am a long way from fitting into anything I own.
I am always tempted to go out and buy some bigger pants, but I don't want to spend the money. I also don't want to get so comfortable with my new size that I don't work to lose the weight.
So, what do you other new moms do during this stage?

Hand-me-downs (my sister and sister-in-law always pass on a lot of things). Charity (thrift?) shop stuff. A few cheap things to keep me going -- good enough to not get me down, but not good enough not to be motivating...

Think knit! I invested in a couple of very nice knit skirts, and even a pair of knit pants from LLBean (though I don't usually wear pants.) The pants were nice to come home from the hospital last pregnancy as it was quite cold out, and then I wore them sort of like pj's with my nursing shirt overnight. The skirts stretch quite forgivably, and the nursing tops came down far enough to cover my tummy  . Knit is your friend for awhile. See if you can't get to the thrift store or a nice consignment shop. If nothing else - shop LLBean online!!! Good luck! I sooooo can't wait to be where you are in a few weeks!

I second the knit pants/elastic waistband idea with a longish, somewhat wideish, nursing-friendly shirt. I buy mine at Sears. You are still motivated to lose the weight because you can feel the elastic becoming more comfortable as you do. And of course, eventually you will fit into your old things. I remember each time I got impatient to fit into MY STUFF I would try to remember that this time is so magical and special between me and that beautiful newborn! I am sure you are the envy of just about every woman who sees you. Who cares about the weight?.............of course I can lecture you now, but I'm sure I will feel the same way again in a few short months. Hang in there, it will happen. And Congrats!!!

I'm a jeans wearer and found one style I liked at Old Navy and have one pair of that style in every size imaginable!! I just wear them over and over and wash them every couple of days. Also...yoga pants are great b/c you can sleep in them, wear them, work out in them, and lose weight in them...

You know those things you can put in your jeans and skirts to stretch them abit when you're pregnant? The elastic belt that links up with button and buttonhole? what about one of those for a while?

I have one of those, whatever it is called, but I am not even to the point of that fitting yet. Unfortunately, it isn't just my belly that expands when pregnant!

I'm following you around, Molly. I'm still wearing my maternity pants and skirts, with the waistband folded over. I bought several long sleeve vneck knit shirts from Motherhood Maternity that I'm wearing. The fit doesn't flare out, so they don't scream maternity clothes. My other choice is button down shirts that seem to cover the panel.
I am looking forward to the go-ahead to exercise and get my tummy down. I'm not expecting overnight miracles, but it would be nice to fit into my other postpartum clothes and not buy anything.

I'm a bit farther along in this frustrating time (Max is nearly 8 weeks), but I just couldn't bear to wear the maternity clothes anymore and the ones I did end up wearing were actually starting to not fit (yeah!). But, I'm much heavier overall than with previous babies and, except for our first one, all other babies have come in the Spring. I have lots of summer clothes, but truly no winter ones for this transition time. I did end up shopping and just gave in and bought things that actually fit right now. I tell you, I feel a lot better just having three or four cute (and warm) outfits to wear out. I picked up some skirts and a pair of cords at the Eddie Bauer outlet. Do you have those out in your area? They were about $9.00 each. I then found some good tops at Old Navy. Cheap! So I won't feel bad when I ditch all these clothes in, I pray, a few months!! Ughh! I hate this time, too! Good luck! :)

You need to find a convenient and economical thrift store, grab a $20 bill and go and buy something fun that fits. Since you won't be wearing it for long and since you probably feel out of sorts because you are not fitting into anything you own, then I suggest you buy something totally stylish and impractical (except that you probably need to make sure that you can nurse in it!) If you have a friend that you love spending time with, then I suggest you invite her along, grab an extra $5 and stop at your favorite place a get drink and have a chat. If you live anywhere near me (Springfield) I would be happy to recommend some places! My favorite is a Value Village near Andrew's Air Force base.

This is a great time of year to go shopping! All the winter stuff, which you will still wear for another 2-3 (or more!) months is on sale!
I bought bigger jeans this time last year (when I was about 2 months postpartum) for $10 each off the clearance rack at Kohl's.
Or try a thrift shop. I finally started shopping at thrift shops about a year ago. You'd be SO SURPRISED at what people will give away! Recently, I bought 2 Casual Corner twinsets for about $3 each!

I have one of those in style "tunic" type shirts -- This kind of thing.
It has worked well for the early preg. and postpartum part for me. (Actually, I only have one like this and wish I had more!)
I was all annoyed when I wasn't pregnant at this style cuz it looks kind of maternity and I only wanted to look pregnant when I WAS pregnant. But, since I still DO look pregnant . . . . 
I don't know if that helps. I have nothing to wear either . . .

I bought some long tanks and cut "nursing openings" in them and then wore them under my nursing shirts. You can get them in a few neutral colors and they look better than the maternity band showing. Just an idea that worked for me.
