It looks like DH and I will finally get a chance to get away overnight for our 10th anniversay (which was in April  ). We'll be going in December, and I was thinking Boston, which is only 2 hours away. Any suggestions for where to stay (I think I'd like to be in the heart of things) and what to do (not anything where I'll be wishing I had the kiddos with me  ). For example, anything related to the Amer. Revolution...
I hope that second request doesn't sound horrible...I'm just looking forward to having some time with DH. It's been a long time since we've been out together...

Congratulations on your 10th anniversary.
If we could get away, I would try to see a show in the Theatre District. My husband said he would see the Celtics(and I'd probably like that, too  ).
I googled lodging Boston and turned up with this guide to the Back Bay Hotels, what I call would call central. There is a range of moderate $$$ to very upscale $$$$$. If you do not like the idea of posh hotel, The Newbury Guest House appealed to me. I have always enjoyed strolling down Newbury Street.
Maybe Dawn or Cheryl could give you better advice as they live closer. MacBeth's previous posts indicate that she knows about Boston, too.

Oh, somewhere around Park Street (it's a T stop--the T being public transportation) is good to start. You can walk the Freedom Trail. It's a trail marked with red that you can walk that takes you through a series of historic colonial places involved in the American Revolution. Part of it (Old North Church) is part of Paul Revere's ride. The Old North Church is in the North End which is a wonderful place. It's the Italian district and it's a lot of fun--lots of romantic eateries there.
Near the North End, you can find Faneuil Hall which is a meeting house for different organizations such as the Sons of Liberty.
Then there's Fenway in Kenmore square (near my alma mater of Boston University). This is where you find the Citgo Sign that you can see over the Green Monster.
I love Boston. I miss it although not the cold.

I'm sorry I can't help you. I've been to New York City and Florida more often than Boston. I'd love to hear about your trip though!

Art! I have never been to Boston's wonderful art museum (my kids are a pain in art museums, usually), and if I had time alone with dh I would definitely use some of it to see some lovely paintings. (This is a good rainy-day option, too.)
I do love the Freedom Trail...hiked it a couple of years ago...for all things revolutionary, it's definitely your best bet.

Are the Boston Pops playing when you are there? That was fun!
I agree that taking the time to walk the Freedom Trail for a day, landing in the Italiam district for a meal is a good idea.....LOTS of Catholic Churches there

Oh, yes!!! And, if you can get to the Wang Center for a performance of some sort, it's well worth it. The building looks like a warehouse of sorts from the outside, but it's beautiful inside.
The art museum is wonderful too. That's off the E line on the T.
You're bringing back some memories!
