Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We got back tonight from our "vacation". It was one of those "well, we really should get away for a few days and let the kids have some fun" situations. Court had a ton of work to do and I wasn't feeling up to it. But like good parents we went anyway. Wrong decision.

After a four hour drive, in two vehicles (a boy car and a girl van), my husband's car went off the side of the rode and got a flat tire. So, we pull off the deserted road that we are on to change the tire. Simple enough. Wrong. He doesn't have a jack in his car (a Civic) so he tries to use the one from my 12-passenger van. After some creative devices, including driving up on rocks to get the car high enough for the bigger jack, he got the tire changed. Whew, time for vacation!

We woke up the next morning to find a flat tire on my van! We haven't even seen the Lake yet! So he heads to town, 30 miles away, to get our tires fixed. $500 later, the rim for the tire was damaged beyond repair, we start our vacation.

We were staying at a relative's lake house. Each day a different member of that family came to hang out with us. Each day the kids got riled up all over again. I had the stress of keeping the house in order at all times. There was very little downtime for me.

We did manage to have some fun swimming. And last night, as the kids played cards and board games together, I was feeling glad that we had made the effort.

Then tonight we get home to no power in our garage where we keep two full size freezers and a full size refrigerator. I had just gone to Costco before we left. Everything was lost!

Right now I am trying really hard to count my blessings and not complain or cry. But it is pretty hard tonight.

Oh, Molly I feel for you. I hope you recover soon from the "vacation." I'll pray for your peace of mind - especially about the freezers - bummer.

Oh, Molly, what a bummer about the fridge and freezers. Sometimes homeowner's insurance covers food losses from power outages. It might be worth checking into.
I'll be praying for your peace!

Oh that is a bummer! My dh always tells me...when you go somewhere where you know people...it's not a vacation, it's a visit. We always end up where relatives are and yes...it never really feels like a vacation.

And I'm with you on the crying...sometimes it just feels good to let go!

Losing a Costco run...man...not just the money but the time spent and respent...that's definitely enough for a good loud AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

You'll be in my prayers.

Molly, I'm sorry it was rough. I do know how you feel. We rarely do anything that goes smoothly.

But I bet the kids will have good memories from it. Those good times will be with them always as part of their childhood.

Molly--Sounds like you need a vacation of your own ! We're one of those families where things never seem to go smoothly. When we try to accomplish something, I think family and friends all sit around waiting for me to call and recount the tales. But I'm with Bridget, the kids probably recall it so much differently. Right now, have good cry...in a week or so, get them to narrate the experience at the dinner table. I'll bet perspectives will have changed by then!
