Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My parents are throwing themselves a 40th anniversary party later this summer. I have volunteered to put together goody bags for the children attending.

My parents are very much "kids should be seen and not heard" people, which is partly why I volunteered to create these bags.

Age ranges from infant to 11. (Ok, I'm really not doing one for the infant, esp. since she's mine - so age range is actually 18 months to 11)

I plan on including bubbles and am looking for sources for other good things to include. I don't want to include "junky" stuff, but I also have to be budget-conscious as I'm creating bags for 10 kids.

What would you include? Where would you find it?

Thanks for sharing your creative ideas!!

What about little drawing pads and a 4-pack of crayons?

Or, if you have the new Catholic Mosaic coloring book, pictures from there to color?

I would suggest that the bags themselves be decorated by the kids!

You could print out cards that the kids could color for your parents. That would include them in the celebration.

stickers. Stickers are always a hit with my kids.

Cardboard picture frame to decorate - bring a poloroid camera and they can put a picture right in from the party?

or along the same idea, little boxes to decorate (they are made out of cardboard, do you know the ones I mean?

crayons & paper?

lollipops?

silly putty or the tiny playdohs?

my brain isn't working too well, I will keep thinking on this...

What about disposable cameras? They can be purchased in party packs, and the children can have fun taking pictures of the party. (Maybe not the 18-month-old, but the ones that are old enough might enjoy them.)

A good "quiet toy" is a smallish lightweight flashlight; there are some that are safe even for the little ones.

The Oriental Trading Company website http://www.orientaltrading.com/ has some adorable craft kits, and they're quite reasonable.

Ditto to the above-esp the notepad and crayons, pencils, little stamp sets, etc

other ideas:
-hacky sacs or small balls (if the space is appropriate)
-kalidescopes (sp?) -you can get cheap ones from party stores
-decks of cards
-jacks
-small hand held travel games-check your $1 store
-matchbox cars
-small puzzles-$1 store

maybe just to have on hand in a kids area:
-magna doodle
-legos
-puzzles
