Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

In this thread, Marie asked about modest clothing for tall women. I know there are a few of us here. Does anyone have a favorite source of tall sizes to share? I always have a hard time finding things long enough too. I am about 6'. I remember Nina is tall, who else?

I am always on the lookout for resources on this subject! I am almost 6 ft tall.

I was in Tall Girl last week (visiting from out of town) and noticed that they have a small maternity section too. This store has lots of clothing that is not modest, but its a good place to get t shirts with good sleeve length and nightgowns that actually touch the floor. I have had good luck in the past with finding long straight skirts, too. This store caters to women much taller than 6 ft too, btw, and sometimes the bottoms are too long for me!

Eddie Bauer offers most of their clothing in talls that work for women up through about 6 ft tall. They used to carry beautiful jumpers and skirts, but in the last year or so, their line has gotten more modern and less modest.

LL Bean and Lands End have some offerings in talls, too, but they are never quite long enough for me. I don't buy jeans anymore, but when I did, I had good luck with Lands End as I could have them hemmed to a custom inseam for free. I would say that their offerings are for women in the 5'8"-5'9" ish range. Usually skirts will be somewhere in the 34"-36" range.

For a woman who is close to 6' tall, 38" is a better length, especially if you don't want to have to be remembering to pull it out of the wash so that it doesn't shrink.

J. Jill is very overpriced (!) but they do have lovely long skirts available in tall. I bought a chocolate brown one in tencel that swirls and is cut on the bias that I just love to wear with boots to Mass in the winter.

Hanna Lise is a company that specializes in modest clothing and some of their offerings come in talls. I've got two or three pretty skirts from them that have held up well. I appreciate that I can find full skirts from them. Everyone else pretty much offers straight skirts, which I don't mind, but are harder to clean the house in. 99% of their offerings do not have slits, either!

Finally, for the very very tall, there is long elegant legs. These are too long for me, but I have seen some nice skirts on their site at times.

I also have good luck sometimes with the JCPenney tall catalog.

I'm 5'10". My daughter is 12 and she is 5'5" already -- I think she's going to be at least 6'!

You know, the thing is....these are all great rec's (Eddie Bauer is one favorite I have bought jumpsers/skirts from)...and still really too expensive for our budget!!! Waaaaaa. I'm apologizing for feeling sorry for myself, but ladies: isn't it frustrating?

Really, nothing I have fits properly. All of the seams are off---shoulders, arm lengths, inseams, leg lengths, etc. (I have broad shoulders, too---do you ladies?) I just can't afford the decent clothing. My mom always says: "Shop at Neiman Marcus! All of the designer labels design for tall girls and have long arms and legs. It's because you buy cheap." (Ha! Yea...right.) But I do hold up the designer-label clothing my mom gets my sister (much smaller size) and yup....beautifully long sleeves and proportionately longer lines everywhere. So I guess it's true, you do get what you're willing to pay for, as my mom says. Sigh......

OK....honest moment. Believe it or not, I wear mostly maternity shirts, as they are long enough and even some of the other stuff as it is comfortable and elastic waist! Ha ha ha. I know, I know...shouldn't look dumpy. But, that comfort thing around the house---just gotta do it---I look presentable when I go out!....I'm a jammie bottom kind of gal (have to wear Men's).

I'm going to look into these other places---thanks for the suggestions. Good question!

I'm 5'10". Many catalogs, like Hanna Andersson only have those 24" skirts. Thanks for the tips on clothes for us "tall gals".

Sometimes Mother is right. Every time I buy something from a non talls clothing store it ends up not fitting well, and I feel awkward and frumpy. I compensate for the cost by shopping sales (off season sales can be very reasonable), by buying things that can be worn for more than one season, and by owning very *little* clothing, compared to the average person. I'd rather have 2 skirts that fit well and that I feel pretty in than 5 skirts that look horrible and make me feel like I don't want to leave the house. I learned that the hard way.

Maybe just splurge on *one* talls item (make it a skirt rather than a shirt...more practical) every 4 months or so, and build up? That's what I did. I still don't have a lot, and sometimes I want to cry when I look in the closet and think, "Everyone at mass has seen this dress at least a jillion times since Memorial Day". But its better than it was before, and I do know over time, I will continue to get better.

I have found that with talls, I often have to wait to find the right items too, because some skirts and dresses look really frumpy. My dh loves it when I wear skirts and dresses, but he does NOT like the Amish look!

Yes, quality clothes are more generously cut. I have rarely had clothes that fit me well, I shop thrift stores and take what i can get. I am starting to try to buy some things that fit well. Just a piece here and there. What a difference good fit and quality make!

Excellent advice and points, Books!!!
Quality over quantity.

You're right----things should fit. Modesty is one thing; sloppy is another.

Taking what we can get....well, at least we stay humble and do not become slaves to fashion, right?   I know how that is, Bridget....that is my policy with: Costco! That's where I've been picking things up. The clothing is completely OFF. The XL sizes barely cover my belly button. It is hysterical. I do the best I can.

Ha!

Thanks for the links and suggestions! I'm 5'10" and can never find clothes to fit either. It doesn't help that I also have a small frame -- it seems like virtually everything out there is too short and wide. Almost all of my clothes are from Eddie Bauer, just because of their tall sizes... but like you said, Nina, yikes! the expense! I usually wait until something goes on sale on their outlet webpage.

Very happy to find other tall moms!

I'm not tall, but my mom is and a friend of mine is. They find designer labels that they really like and looks good in and then "shop" on ebay with their measurements, etc. A bit time consuming, but I guess so is shopping at the mall.
